If you have a visitor's visa you are not allowed to work. If you do, you will be caught and deported. You will not be allowed to return to Australia for some years. You cannot, usually, extend your visa while you are in the country and you cannot change it from a visitor's visa to a working visa. You must leave the country and apply for a new visa.

loL you will end up in the tv show Border security and get a (free?) flight back to your place before you even step past the custom? aussie custom officers are very good at their job ;-)

well if you did manage to get through that stage on a tourist visa, it doesnt guarantee you a job as the law abiding employers (apart from small minority asian employers who would only pay you peanuts hence not worthwhile) will not hire you anyway!

dont come to australia with the intention to work illegally. its a truly stupid idea. check if you are eligible for a working holiday visa that may be an option for you

No.
And don't try. Penalties are severe and it is NOT worth the risk. It is not a question of IF you get caught - it is WHEN you get caught.

As the answer above said - you would have to have a visa to be here in the first place. Some people have a visa to be here then overstay and work - but sooner or later they DO get caught and deported.

well you cannot be in Australia without having a visa in the first place, unless you are a NZer (in which case you have the right to work), or you somehow evaded the navy on the Timor Sea.

Absolutely.

They have plenty of work going at Port Headland. There is a place there with large fences and chocko full of Indonesian pirates. You can allways get a job there, and apply for a visa.

Yeah, sure, you can work in Australia illegally. You'll get caught, you'll get Court, and you'll get a holiday that will cost $125 a day in a detention centre.
Best of luck.
