Did you want ones that had actually been approved or just heard of? They're usually based on religion, people fleeing war areas.

Nigerian man in Ireland claimed that he would be persecuted for his religion. Was denied asylum. Then had a kid in Ireland and because of immigration law was given residency. He's now the mayor of a town there.

i do not know for sure . i have only heard of two examples. one is for canada , request asylum if you do not want to go to war in Iraq because you do not believe it is right to kill anyone.

and in switzerland , it used to be announced when you entered and existed the country on the eurail trains .. there was a loud announcement in several languages that asked if anyone requested to asylum to please make yourself known to the staff immediatly. i remember being quite annoyed by it / just when you managed to fall asleep / seemed like another alarm clock wake up call about asylum announcement in several different languages. i had no clue then why anyone would want it . LOL. I do not know if this is still their practice ... since the terrorists attacks in the u.S. , uk and around world. maybe they are no longer as welcome haven for asylum .

It depends on what country your from.

For example: China has the Religion Argument (Christian bible smuggler's) as well as women having surgical procedures done against their will.

Cuba has the ir government to be concerned about.

Africa was a lot depending on the area you're in.

Some countries don't have asylum rights in the US (unless it's something drastic)

All of those "Asylum" and "Refugee" schemes are loaded with scams!
Look at all the people from Bosnia and Kosovo who are *still* here in the U.S.
There's no reason for them to still be in the U.S.
And we still have so-called "refugees" from Central America here from Hurricane "Mitch" which happened 10 years ago!
When are they leaving?
There hasn't been any problems in those countries for years now!
The Geneva Conventions states that once the situation stabilises in a country that country's refugees can be returned to their home country.
That's the problem with those programs, once those people get to the U.S. and other Western countries they *never leave!*
These are supposed to be *temporary* programs and in no case should they lead to citizenship.
In one case a woman was granted "refugee status" simply because "she was afraid of being raped", she never was though.
And she never contacted police in her own country!
Then, you have the Russian Mafia who smuggle young women into western countries and set them up in apartments to make it look like a house of prostitution , coach the women what to say to police and then make an "anonymous" phone call to police and the women are all threated like "victims"!
Of course the smugglers are never caught and go on to smuggle another batch of women in and make another bundle of money.
Those are called "T" visas. What a SCAM!
I think the U.S. needs to get out of the "Asylum" and "Refugee" business.
And make no mistake about it, it (is) a business!
Immigration lawyers lobbied for the very "laws" that are making them money!
And of course all those "refugees" and "Asylum seekers" want to go to Europe or the U.S.!
If you offered them "Asylum" in the Phillipines or Bulgaria say we'd see all those "claims" dry up overnight!
All SCAMS!

The strangest one I have heard yet was an African woman who claimed that if she was sent back: they would cut her clitoris off!

She won her case...
