The best thing you can do is to not play around with a hot iron. Answer yes or no when ever possible and do not expand on the subject. After all you are talking to a potential boss who may just be a poor leader too! You would be well served not to mention poor leadership or any other poor qualities at all.

You have exactly the right attitude regarding the fact that you can't go into interviews and bash your previous employer. If the reason for your imminent departure is poor leadership, what you have to do is figure out how that affected YOU personally and/or professionally and use those reasons without making it sound like it was the employer's fault.

For example, if their poor leadership was making you fall behind in the skills that keep you current in your field, you could say, "I would like to leave my current job because my skills are stagnating. I am looking for new challenges, and that's why your opening appealed to me." What employer wouldn't love to hear that?

Or if the poor leadership was causing you to spend too much time at work and not enough with your family, you could say, "I have been working long hours to help my company succeed, but unfortunately I am in a climate where my contributions are not enough to keep us moving in the right direction. For as hard as I work, I need to be in an environment where I know that we're all pulling in the same direction." That way, you're not saying that your employer was doing anything wrong, per se, but that you see that you are not a good match for that organization.

In every interview I have ever had, if I left a job and there is a gap in work history I am asked why I left. I did leave a job because I had a lot of problems with management. I always say something to the effect that I had a differing opinion then management and felt that it was best for all parties involved if I left- that is a pretty well accepted answer. You need to remember not to bash anyone or talk negatively about them- interviewers usually don't like it. If they don't like that you had a problem with poor leadership then chances are you don't want to work there because that is something they may struggle with.

You dont portray it all. You are going to a new job because of the oppurtunity that it presents. Only mention positives. At worst you may mention you disagreed with leadership styles and didnt feel comfortable with how you felt the course the group was taking, but be prepared with a good answer. Like practice it a few times before you go into the interview.

Think of those folks in Donald Trumps program, what's it called? Anyway, he tends to pick someone to be in charge of a group; then when they fail, they have to come up with a valid reason as to why the group failed. Donald likes to hear the argument although it has to make sense. He doesn't want to hear the leader blame the others; he wants to hear the leader blame it on certain things that the leader could have done better. So, what could have you done better is what you want to emphasize--if you must. But coming from my experience as a vocational counselor, I wouldn't emphasize the negative. I would emphasize what you did to accomplish goals.

But with out knowing about what kind of work you do it's hard to answer.

You give them an answer like: you out grew your prior position and were looking to expand your abilities or for something more challenging.

if you are happy now in your new job i prefer that you forget all about this leadership and begin a new life but if you are without a job now and you regret your ex job say the reality .
