I know it can be done - but how? I can record Sky while I watch Freeview but not the other way around. It's something to do with AV2 I think. Help

We have the setup with all the scart leads going presumably to the right ports. My problem is what you have to do with each remote to actually record something. We have 3 remotes now. One for the video, one for the Freeview and one for Sky. I can juggle the 3 to record a Sky programme while I watch somthing else on Freeview - but I can't seem to do the same thing for recording one of the Freeview programmes when I want to watch something on Satellite. I'm doing something wrong somewhere..... (words of one syllable please)

We do have manuals for each piece of equipment which are supposed to tell you how to do everything - but as they are written by a rocket scientist in electronic jargon they are no use at all. (The person who can translate this sort of manual into simple English will make an absolute fortune one day.)

When you ask this question it depends on several factors 1 does your free view come from a built in unit or a set top box if so you have to daisy chain either your video unit or dvd recorder so you can record either from sky or box but if it is a built in unit to the tv most vcrs or dvd recorders only have one tuner so can only record from one source at a time which has to be tuned in to recorder whichever type you have or if you have a switchable scart set up you can switch between sources to suit you and record whichever you want and watch the other through analogue

If you set up a scart lead to go between the Freeview box and your VCR you'll be able to record your freeview output.

Then plug another scart between your Sky box and TV, so you can watch Sky at the same time.

If you want to be able to record from both Freeview and Sky, then you need to run scart leads, one from video to freeview, the other from video to Sky.

Then in addition to this you need to run scart leads from each AV slot in your TV to both the freeview and Sky.

I know it's a complicated setup, but that's how these things go. I hope this helps.

Get sky+ then you won't need to worry about recording especially when you want to record two different channels at the same time. If you want to keep the programme then you can copy this to either VCR or DVD in order to free up some space on the hard drive, or so you can lend it to your family and friends. It is so simple to use, the wife can do it!!
