I'm looking at buying an AWD, mid-priced crossover vehicle. Any suggestions? I'd like a Murano, but not sure I can afford it.

I really like the Chevy Equinox. Has lot's of standard features, a great warranty and fantastic reviews by owners. It has some really handy features in the back that are especially useful for picnics, tailgate parties, etc. An adjustable shelf, that has hooks for grocery bags, outlets for electrical appliances that can run off car batteries, and lot's of other handy features. A lot more affordable than the Murano, has almost ZERO maintanence for 100k miles, no timing belt to replace every 60k miles at $800.00 a pop, just change the oil and you are good to go. They are also really good in the snow. My friend has one that we use for skiing, it does great!!

The Murano is a great car and also a great used car. They are very reliable and will go forever with good maintenance. If you want other vehicles in this segment, look a the new Subaru V9(?).

You should consider the Ford Edge.
It is thousands of $ less than the imports & will be less $ for maintanance as well.
It also has outstanding safety & quality ratings. Currant 2007 year end incentives will make it even more affordable!

Also the '08 Taurus X has been named the safest family sized crossover available.
