This shouldn't be something that he is punished for. If he thinks he should be ashamed of it than he'll grow up with a complex. Always tell him that it's ok and it's nothing that can't be fixed. Make sure you don't give him anything to drink about 1 hour before bedtime, make him go before bedtime (which you are already doing). Put plastic on his bed. Make sure he stays warm in the bed also. Cold air in the room will always make them not want to get out of bed to go.
Also, if possible, try a chiropractor. My brother had this same problem and the chiropractor fixed it for him. It was such a long time ago that I can't remember what she did or why it helped, but you could always call a "child chiropractor" and asked them if they can help. You would be amazed at what they can do.

Had the very 'same' problem. Ok here's what we did. We actually set the alarm for every TWO hours and woke him and physically took him to the potty and made him go potty. Believe me...after a while he'll actually NOT want you waking him up every two hours and will stop. Sounds harsh...but after many, many mattress covers it was all worth it. It's not abnormal for boys to do this however. Final note: if you prefer not to use this method; then by all means get a water proof matress pad and let him sleep with nothing but undies.

Your son may be a very sound sleeper. A trip to the bathroom a few hours after going to bed may help. if not, Its time to take him to the doctor to see if there is a medical reason for his bed wetting. My brother was a bed wetter. It turns out that the urinary track was very narrow. He was unable to pee a lot and when he relaxed during sleep it would flow out. He ended up having surgery to correct the problem.

Its nothing to worry about. Just put him in pull ups at night. This is totally normal. Many kids that age will still wet at night, they just havent developed the bladder control yet. There really isn't anything that you can do or need to do. Yes, some kids can and do have the bladder control but they all develop at different times and your son hasn't yet. He really cannot help it. If your concerned, please talk to the child Dr. I'm sure they will re-assure you it shouldn't be an issue.
good luck
p.s. just wanted to add that chiropractic care is wonderful for children. It helped my son tremendously with his constipation problems. If their is a misalignment in your neck or back it effects your entire body.

never, never, never make him feel ashamed for doing it! That is completely out of his control. My 5 year old son woke up yesterday morning wet and we just always blame it on his sister (who is 7) and she sleep in her own room! My 7 year old still does it sometimes too but she has a small bladder and doesn't have good control even in the day! He will grow out of it. The most important thing is either have him sleep in pull-ups or get a plastic liner for your mattress!

A 4 year-old CAN have bladder control. I am the youngest of 4 kids and we were all totally trained by age 2 1/2. My mom would take us out of bed and put us on the toilet just before she went to bed herself so we would get used to using the toilet in the middle of the night. We RARELY had accidents at night.

My brother used to wet the bed up until he was about 7 before he grew out of it. I don't think there is anything you can really do, he may just have a small bladder. You will probably just have to be patient, he will grow out of it.

A four year old does not have complete bladder control. There isn't anything you can do except wake him up before you go to bed to use the bathroom again.

Do not make him feel guilty!!! He obviously can't help it & is a good kid for not having accidents when he's a wake & should be praised for that. They make "big-boy" night time pants for children who's bladders aren't growing at the same rate as the rest of their bodies....he's not unusual!!!! Let him wear those to bed & assure him that he's not the only one that has accidents. HE WILL grow out of it!!!

Some times a child's bladder doesn't develop as quickly as the rest of their body. He may have a very small bladder and just can't wake up. Another problem may be that he sleeps very deeply and he just doesn't wake up when he needs to go.
I would see his pediatrician and they can help.
Good luck
