Hi

I have recently moved (July) from the UK to the USA and have so far managed to maintain my weight. Well, that was until last week when I put on 2 pounds! I now am wondering if I am eating more than I realise.

What can I do to loose the weight? I run 5 times a week (between 2 and 3.5 miles a time) and do weight training 4 times a week. I tend to eat healthly but have a soft spot for ice-cream. I try to say "no" but then my boyfriend will have some and then I really can't help myself. I have asked my boyfriend for his support but he thinks I am too thin and need a couple of extra pounds!

I don't know how many calories I consume in a day and have no idea about how many calories different foods contain. I try to stop eating before I feel full but can't stop myself if I am eating something which tastes good!

Any ideas?

I am 5'2 and now weigh 7 stones 7 pounds (105 pounds)

2 pounds is not much!! People's weight can naturally fluctuate by about 3 pounds!! You sure you are not due on your period soon - this can cause you to put on 2 pounds due to water retention. I think it is a bit too soon to be considering losing weight!! You may find in a week's time you have lost 2 pounds without even trying. I'd see if you carry on putting on more weight before considering trying to lose weight!!

You sound like a healthy person who knows all about maintaining weight, and how your weight can fluctuate and stuff like that. So, my guess is the 2 pounds is probably just a result of the stress of moving here. When our bodies become stressed, we release more cortisol. Cortisol makes us hang on to fat instead of burning it. So, it might be that your daily routine isn't enough to burn the "stress fat." But, once things get back to normal for you, you should be just fine, and the weight should come off. If you're really worried about those 2 pounds, just work out really intensely for a week or 2, and they'll come right off.

Keep a journal of all the foods you eat, including how many calories were with each food. Find the average amount of calories that you eat. Highlight any foods that were very high in calories, and try not to eat them again. I have lost 3 pounds this way so far, in 3 weeks.

the best thing you can do in this situation is as soon as you see him pull out the ice cream, leave the room, leave the house...whatever. go out and take a brisk walk for a half hour or something...ANYTHING to get you out of the situation and to take your mind off it. my boyfriend does the same thing and this method has worked for me. allow yourself to have a big bowl of ice cream once a week or so because that won't hurt you but limit it to that. doing this will probably help you get back down to what you weighed before.
