I quote this from another answerer on Y!:
"The reason why the world is getting so bad is because more and more people are rejecting God. If people would do their best to follow the 10 commandments, pray, and embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ, this world would be a much better place to live. If people believed in heaven and hell they would do everything they could to get to heaven and avoid hell"
Seems to me since 90% of all people that have ever lived have been religious, and since the war on terror is the direct result of Christian and Jewish ideologies at odds with Islam this statement is not only completely wrong, but in fact the kind of opinion that only ADDS to the problems of the world.
It’s like saying if everyone just became more Islamic, Christian, and Jewish fundamentalists everything would be OK...your thoughts?
sorry but this just seems like the most ridiculous statement ive seen on Y! in more than a week so i thought i would share.

Well religion is the problem as I see it. The issue is with the hatred that some Muslims show towards Christians and Jewish people. The sad and scary part is that it is written in their religion that they should ask the infidels to convert, if they do not then theory are to strike at them toward the neck. Muhammad himself condoned and used beheadings, torture, rape and deceit in order to get his way. He did this all in the name of his gad. It is Muslims today who are told to follow Muhammad and the example he sat for them. Well the example was sat, but it is one of violence, hate, and oppression for anyone who is not Muslim. I mean this is clearly obvious from reading scholarly books on what the Muslims have done all in the name of their god. You can see it in the books "Because they Hate" by Brigitte Gabriel, who was born and raised in Lebanon, and dearly loved her home country but was forced out due to the Muslims taking over the open and peace loving society. I mean they were the USA of the middle east in a lot of ways. Then there is the book "Infidel" by a women who's last name is Ali. She was a Muslim but due to what they did to her new homeland she was forced to move to the USA for her own safety. Then the book by Robert Spencer, "The Truth About Muhammad", he uses Muslim sources to show the reader what kind of man Muhammad was in real life. Not the one that many would have you believe or the one that they want you to see, but who he was and what he did and how he did it. It is a very frightening book. I would recommend reading all of them. Then please tell me if the problems of the world are religious in nature. I say yes they are and can have very drastic consequences if we as Americans to not begin opening up our eyes and learn from what history has taught us so far about this group. No not all are like this, only the ones who read and truly understand Islam are like this. Islam is only good for one group of people and that is other Muslims. You will see what I mean when you look into and study this topic. It is not as we would so like to say a religion of peace. It will be but only when all non-believers are dead and our women taken prisoners to serve as slaves. So much for live and let live. I hate to sound so dark and depressing but it is the truth of the matter I hope people well begin reading about who Muhammad really was and what he really did. Then listen to the wonderful excuses that pour from their mouths today. Many of then don't hold water and many of them avoid the subject all together. =) I feel sad somewhat due to the fact that it is so obvious yet no one wants to believe it, I admit not even me, but I can not just shut my eyes and stick my head in the sand. Only a coward can do that, we must learn and gain knowledge and understanding. We must educate ourselves on the enemy or until one has done further research the potential enemy. Unlike Christen terrorist who all good christens back away from and denounce, all the "good Muslims" are parsing what people like UBL and the PLO and Hamas is doing and conducting. You will see why Muhammad hated Jewish people and then Christians. All I ask is that you read The Truth About Muhammad and you will like me, be thirsty for more information, and praying that you are wrong, the sad thing is you will not be. That's when the fear sets in. Well have a wonderful day!! =)

I think is everyone practiced the ethical standards espoused by most religions - compassion, love, social justice, peacemaking - the world would be better off.
That requires more than words.
It also means avoiding a rigid, judgmental attitude that occurs in all religions, which states that one religion alone is correct (or a 'final revelation') and condones hatred towards non-practitioners or declares certain groups (e.g., gays) to be set apart form God.

No. The reason that there are problems in the world is due to sin and Satan. The human nature is fallen and not capable of being truly good. We can be good at times but we all have situations where we choose evil instead. That causes problems.
And the world is not getting worse because of a lack of religion, rather, it's because of a lack of faith and a lack of understanding about who God is and what he wants. That's not the same as a lack of religion. There are all kinds of religions with all kinds of beliefs, and there are very religious people in the Christian church who don't know God. So lack of religion is not the problem. Lack of understanding of God and lack of faith are what makes the world worse.
Now, many will object to what I wrote, and that's fine. It's your right to object and disagree with me. That doesn't make what I've said a lie or false, but you are welcome to think that it does. This message is not a message of reconcilliation but a message of division. Sometimes there is need for this kind of message.

Things get bad when people have no moral standard to live by or choose not to live by the rules set up by society.
The religions I am familiar with have a set of laws and standards designed to result in peace and prosperity .
Self respect ,the respect for the rights of others and some charity would go a long way toward a more peaceful coexistence. Whether we learn them from the Faith we follow or live by the rules recognized by the majority of the society we live in .

The problems of the world is due to the absence of morality, which isdue to lack of religion. Every religion preaches the same ideology of peace and harmony in the society, hence conflicts taking place due to differences in religion is purely unreligious in nature . It therfore the opportunity seekers, who uses religion as a shield to fulfill their own interests.
Religion is the only source of morality in the face of this world, when a person losses his/her God consciousness, he/she becomes reckless due to unaccountability of his/her actions. Lack of religion also leads to materialism and eventually to brutality , in the quest for higher and higher gains in this world.
Therefore it has become necessary for us to remember God, follow our religion from the right perspective and also invite peoples to do the same. We all yearn for a peacful world, where justice takes precedence over prejudice and where spirituality takes precedence over materialism.

The problems of the world will persist regardless of whether or not religions are here. It's just that it's VERY easy to use RELIGION as an EXCUSE for irrational behavior. Ever since time... Holy wars.. etc...

Whether there is religion or not, humans would be the same strange creatures, aware of their own inevitable deaths, and a bit panicky because of it, desperate to grab as much power as possible in the rather odd belief that if they have enough power they can prevent change, and thus hold off death.
