Yes and no. It indirectly gives people the impression that God is male, but that is only because in Hebrew, words have gender and the way God's name, pronounced "Eloheem," is written gives that name the gender of plural masculine. The reason for that is because of the rule that if an adjective is referring to a noun that is plural and that noun is referring to say one man and twenty women, then the masculine plural form of the adjective is used, using the ending of "-eem".

Judaism (among other institutions) even allows the use of the word "man." Are people shocked?

In the Hebrew original of Genesis the plural word Elohim was used, ie The Gods. No mention of gender

No. The Hebrew language requires gender usage, but we also have names for God which are feminine, i.e. Shekinah.

yeah, the original god of Genesis was the father god El, he was the leader of a pantheon of gods (Elohim), later he merged with a storm god Yahweh (also male). they were married to Asherah, the queen of heaven.
In the neighbouring city of Ugarit, their description of El apparently had a phallus that could stretch across seas.

Not really. God does not have sex organs. It's best to view Him as a kind of giant eunuch of the skies.

I don't believe so yet for the sake of speech we have to use words for what cannot be spoken of!

The Greeks loved women and had female gods. The ancient Jews (and later, Christians) didn't think much of women and assigned "male" attributes to "HIM"!
