From newspapers' reports over the years, I believe Singapore has sufficient superior military hardwares and ability to put up a very strong defence against any potential invaders, with exception of the traditional military powers.
However it is the spirit and unity of Singaporeans that can make it happen at the end of the day. It'll just take a portion of disgrunted and demoralised Singaporeans to lessen its defense effectiveness and capability in such time. A country can have the best and sophisticated military hardwares as well as training but it is the manpower that ensures its delivery, vigilance and effectiveness. You can have a capable general but if a portion of the army is demoralised and can't be bothered, he can't do very much because team spirit is very important in time of crisis. Application of strict and harsh military rules also have its limit. Therefore leadership is earned and not forced.
Basically the military here is relatively strong. What is needed is the hearts of Singaporeans to be nurtured and gelled together through fairness, justice, meritocracy instead of elitism, more concern for locally-born Singaporeans (eg education, employment, cost of living, retirement nest), etc.

For a city/state/country it's size and population, it's pretty darn strong (on par with Taiwan). Lots of money there to protect their maritime interests, given their strategic location. How many cities do you know has a US$7 Billion annual defence budget, that can field an army, a fleet of ships (including 6 guided missile frigates & 4 subs) and an air force? Imagine if New York City could field armed forces like that? (Though their police force probably outnumbers many countries' armies)

yes!! especially their naval forces and coast guard. Sing. sits on the Straits of Malacca.. one of the most strategic and commercially viable shipping lanes in Asia which Sing protects aggressively and pro actively. They have invested heavily in modern small attack hi speed craft that are armed to the teeth. They are highly disciplined and effective . Singapore is also one of the wealthiest nations in Asia and can afford all the modern military hardware that is available. check out Jane's defense and janes list of ships under Singapore. ohh its also a great place to visit.

No, they do not have the numbers, or resources to be strong.
They are mainly for show, and to control the population in times of turmoil.

Small land mass and relatively small population.
