Alright, frst and foremost... I'm an atheist. but i'd like to hear a christian's point of view on this. Say... someone says something bad about god.... that's blasphemy, right? and that is supposedly not forgivable. But just as people say...even christians.. people make mistakes in life. So you're saying a person that does this will still go to hell if one day they change their ways and want to be forgiven and are truley sorry for saying what they said?

Even as an Atheist if you had never accepted Christ into your life blasphemy is not the unforgivable sin.It is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit after having known the truth is the unforgivable sin. Mocking Christians and Xing out the name of Christ out of the word Christian is sinful if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior. Doing so to try to get a negative response from a Christian is insightful.
It is my hope that you will pick out any Christians answer sense you did ask a Christian this question. I always pick out the Atheist answer when I direct the question to an Atheist. ( I am in no way suggesting you pick me)

Hi. I don't know where you got your information regarding blasphemy as unforgivable. Every type of sin can be forgiven.Any one who wants to be forgiven and is truly sorry for what they said will not go to hell. How did you come to the conclusion that a person who is truly sorry for having offended God will still go to Hell. You have received wrong information from someone.

You say first and foremost i'm an Atheist.Which means to you God does not exist, and yet you are asking questions about God ,Hell and forgiveness as if He is real . This should be all nonsense to you if you really are an Atheist. And a Christian's point of view would be all crap to you.anyway and i find it rather strange that you are interested in any of this at all.,So what is going on ?

Friend this is not sinning against the Holy Ghost or blasphemy as you say, What blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is, is that if someone has already came to the knowledge of the truth, Look how I say this, If someone as already came to the knowledge of the truth & then they shall walk away from it due to the fact you don't want to upset someone in your family & you Know you see the truth but yet to keep friend with family or friends, you refuse to walk in the truth then as the bible say, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin, because you have trodden under your foot the blood of Jesus Christ, Therefore God will remove that Convicting spirit of the Holy Ghost away from that person forever. For without the Holy Gjhost convicting a person of their sins, they can not come back unto God. And anyone that has ever committed that sin will never again have any desire to even be interest in God. Look at Judas.

No. Not at all. Saying something bad about God is a sin but it is not the unpardanable sin. The unpardanable sin is the blaspheming of the Holy Ghost. The blaspheming of the Holy Ghost is rejection of the gift of salvation which is the receiving of the Holy Ghost into your heart. You cannot be forgiven of this because it is the only thing that can save you from hell. This is not a one time thing. You may reject it once and then later on in life realize your ignorance and mistake. But do not count on that because who is to say the day you reject the gift is the die you die? We never know when we go.

SMH,
I consider many (not all) Atheists to be "Agnostic". That is, if I could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt in their mind that there is a GOD they would believe. I can not do that for many reasons (to them). I do not believe that saying something "bad" about GOD or the HOLY SPIRIT is blasphemy. I do believe that it is considered a sin because it is cursing GOD'S HOLY Name I believe that totally and completely disbelieving in such is blasphemy. We are told that "All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of GOD" in Romans 3:12. SIN is forgivable and when baptized for the remission of sins they are "washed away". Once a person becomes a Christian, He/She may pray for the forgiveness of sins unless that sin is in public then they should ask the Church to pray for them. These things are all found in scripture and have references. Have a wonderful day and a glorious week.
Thank YOU,
Eds

The answer explicitly is yes. Blasphemy is considered a mortal sin and is only forgivable by a true act of contrition and an asking for absolution. Is this really the way it is? I think not. I think that any God that is truly God is not so insecure. I think that many of the laws are designed to control the populace at the time.

First, blasphemy against God is NOT the "unpardonable sin". Jesus said that it is blaspehmy against the Holy Spirit, or attributing to satan the works of the Holy Spirit.

Second, we're not talking about a mistake or a slip of the tongue. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is a deliberate and wilfull insult against the Holy Spirit.

Third, people go to hell because they break the Law.

The Law was first condensed as the 10 Commandments.

Jesus summarized it down to 2 - love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Paul summarized it down to 1 - Love. The greek word used is "Agape", and the antonym is NOT hate, but - get this - "selfishness".

In other words, all the law, and all the prophets, can be boiled down to one basic command: Live unselfishly - 100% of the time, 100% of your life.

Breaking this Law, basically is a violation of the very nature and character of God, and since God is ultimate, the penalty must be ultimate.

When we continuously say "No" to God, and try to run our own lives our own way, this is like rebellion against His ultimate authority. It is tantamount (the same as) high treason. I'm sure you are aware that high treason against a government is punishable by death in ANY civilization.

Again, I must point out, that this does not refer to "mistakes", but deliberate acts. When you lie to cover up something you did; when you take something that you KNOW is not rightfully yours to take, etc, etc.

And, finally, if a person is truly sorry and wants to be forgiven, God is already reaching out. He came to this earth as Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and having never broken any of God's Laws, but said and did EVERY thing the Father told Him to do, he was not subject to the death penalty ("The wages of sin is death"). So, by dying on the cross, HIS death was a covering for OUR sins. That is to say, in simple english, HE paid the penalty for OUR sins (crimes against God), so that whenever we DO get to the point where we are truly sorry and want God's forgiveness, everything is already in place so that God could grant us that pardon. In fact, the Bible even says that "He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we could become the righteousness of God ..."

Does this long, drawn-out answer help at all? I pray it does.

Luke 12:10 says, "And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven

God can forgive ANYTHING. If a man is truly sorry and asks for forgiveness he can be forgiven because Jesus died to make this so. Even Osama Bin Ladin, Charles Manson...the worst of the WORST can have forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. But the man who is not sorry, who can speak against God and have no remorse, he has commited the unpardonable sin of unbelief. Because he is not convicted of his sins by the Holy Spirit he has no remorse. If you are affraid you have made a mistake and you will never make it into heaven, rest easy, you havent. God is still working on you, and your fear is brought about by the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Grace and Mercy are available to everyone by the blood of Christ.

We have all sinned and come short of the glory of the Lord! What you have mentioned is not blasphemy. God will forgive you if you ask. Blasphemy is mocking the Holy Spirit after having accepted him into your life.

You are very misinformed. I hope you can find some time to read the Gospels.

If you are talking about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit no one alive today can commit that sin. The only way to commit that sin was to deny the miracles of Jesus as an eye witness.
