Simple. A plant spritzer bottle full of water. When you catch your cat on the worktop, spray them. They soon get the message! Also effective for scratching at furniture etc.

The best solution is just not to let them in that room. If they can't get to the worktop they can't climb all over that.

You could try squirting them with water or even just making a loud noise to try and scare them which should discourage them but if there's something up there that they want i.e. food then you're probably fighting a losing battle.

Accept that cats make their own rules and clean up after them

The plant mister is a great idea. Another one is to put a handful of pennies in a coffee can and the second your cat jumps onto a worktop, shake it hard. The noise will send your cat flying back to the floor. After a while they will associate the worktops with the noise and not go there anymore.

you can't - unless you keep him/her out of the kitchen. If you want the cat in the kitchen, perhaps a comfy cushion on the chair will stop him/her walking around worktops. This works for my 17 year old cat whose not really interested in reaching the top of the kitchen cupboards any more.

I suppose there are all sorts of deterrents out there but a closed kitchen door is probably the best! Good luck.

Your in luck I have the perfect solution for you! Go to Lowe's or home depot and get you some screen like for a window but make sure it is metal. Lay it out on the surface that you do not want your cat to climb on then get you some kind of a power source. Old analog phone generator should work only 90 vlots. Get some wire hook up a lead and a ground wire and sit back an wait for the cat to climb onto the screen and give him a loving jolt. I guarantee that he will not climb on your counters ever again. yea yea I know there is going to be some tree hugging hippie that is like that is animal abuse but hey look at it this way I could have told her to give it to Michel Vick to take care of!!!!!

you cant!!!if u use the spray bottle they will just wait till ur out of sight and then jump up .i dont think you can train them not to do something that is instinct to them, they are curious animals and they like to be off ground level.you could try the orage peel thing, ihave heard that cats hate the smell but all my cats did was play with it.the only thing you can do is not to leave anything interesting or tasty on the sides and hope they eventually get bored.

Hello!
Ok I have a few suggestions. I will put them in bullet points to make it simpler;

- Orange peel (Hate smell of citrusy fruit, orange is best)
- Sprinkle with pepper ganules not powder (Hate the grittyness on their paws and when they lick it off it will be hot, make sue they have water! and watch it doesnt get in their eyes.
-Sticky tape (Same sort of effect as pepper they dont like the stickyness but they can jump over it so it needs to be put all over which will take ages.
- Spray 'em! Get one of those plant feeder bottles and spray them with the squirt not the mist (dont be to harsh!! unless they dont move of course- they will!!)
- Rustle a plastic bag to startle them a little.
- Raise your voice at them.

Hope some of these work for you.
Amanda!

You can't, cats go wherever they please. Our cat gets on the worktops and I've tried everything possible, just have to clean the paw marks off later!

Get an empty plastic coke bottle and remove label to make totally see through. fill with 3/4 water and lay the bottle down on its side. cats hate seeing water like this. i stopped my one from using my veg patch as a toilet.
Easy and free
