Putting aside all the politics, would a rational person continue the surge or withdraw to pre-surge levels?

The US is committing the number of military needed. Talk of draw down is just an attempt to quell the constant traitorous beitching coming from Democrats in Congress.

If the President is told, at a later date, that more troops are needed, he will give the orders. He is committed to winning the war against terrorists, no matter how long it takes.

It really doesn't matter. We don't know what is going on over there. Bush can 'spin' this however he wants. He may be right. But..the smart money says he's just gearing up for elections and towing the party line. If he can't make this war work by election time, his party will get massacred at the voting booth.

We are should really focus on the cost benefit of our entire middle east policy. The US needs to spend money on other things here at home.
