Prayer works for me all the time. I don't always get the answer but it works for me in many different ways. I believe God hears my prayers. I feel better knowing I prayed. I am thinking about things I pray for and those things come to the forefront of my mind when I pray so I can't "put them in the back of my mind and keep them there" as it were. It makes me feel like I am a good person and care about others. It makes me think everyday that life is not so bad for me after all as I am praying for people less fortunate or those who are in trouble for some reason or another.
It gives me a calm relaxing time in the middle of a sometimes stress filled chaotic day.

Christian prayers are very varied. They can be completely spontaneous, or read entirely from a text, like the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Probably the most common and universal prayer among Christians is the Lord's Prayer which is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.
Christians pray to God (without specifying a person of the Trinity); or to the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit (or some combination of them). Some Christians (e.g., Catholics, Orthodox) will also ask the righteous in heaven and "in Christ," such as Virgin Mary or other saints to intercede by praying on their behalf. (Intercession of saints) Other formulaic closures include "through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever," and "in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit."
It is customary among Protestants to end prayers with "In Jesus' Name, Amen" or "In the name of Christ, Amen." However, the most commonly used closure in Christianity is simply "Amen" (from a Hebrew adverb used as a statement of affirmation or agreement).
There is also the form of prayer called hesychast which is a repetitious type of prayer for the purpose of meditation. In the Western or Latin Rite of Catholic Church, probably the most common is the Rosary; In the Eastern Church (the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church), the Jesus Prayer.
Prayers said by Christians are described in the article on Prayer in Christianity.

Yes, prayer has worked for me in MANY ways. One prime example: my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003. She was told she would not live to see Christmas of that year. Well, it's been four years now and there isn't a TRACE of cancer left in her body. The doctors can't even explain how this happened! Her cancer was soooo bad that it filled the entire pancreas and it was wrapped around a main artery. She is a walking miracle, and I thank Him each and every day!

Prayer is strong... Prayer works. Even if you take out the religious aspect of prayer, it still "works". Prayer is merely meditation... We pray to God about problems and to give thanks for what we have... Others (non-Christians) will meditate... concentrating on their goals, problems... and contemplating on things that they may be thankful for obtaining... These are very similar. Prayer is like a "self-psychologist"...

The most dramatic time it every worked for me is after my Grandmother died, and a memorial was established in her name at a college and I wanted to donate but I was broke and couldn't afford it, and I prayed for like three days "Lord should I give to this memorial, even though I can't afford it?" and at the end of the three days, I knew - somehow knew - that I was supposed to give so I did - $250, alot of money to me in those days.
Then exactly 10 days later I went to the mailbox, there were only two pieces of mail. One was a receipt from the Memorial Fund thanking me for my donation; the other was from a former landlord - it seems she had spent over three years trying to track me down to refund my security deposit.
She had enclosed a check for $1,250.
I knew the two were linked somehow. I had been faithful; God had answered my prayers.

Yes, many times. Sometimes you have to wait, but a prayer from an honest heart with no ulterior motives will be heard by God.

The very thought itself works instantaneously, then why not the PRAYER, a thought form.

yeah. Many times. When I was a Christian, saying my prayers before I went to bed-- "talking to God" always made me feel better if I had a rotten day.
