They equate the Biblical prohibition of eating blood with having a transfusion.
That prohibition is mentioned in Genesis, and reinforced at the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15.
But let me disagree:
When one eats blood, they are digesting it for nutrition. One would be just as well off eating the flesh. Butchers know that when the blood is not drained properly, the meat spoils rapidly.
But when the blood is deficient in red blood cells through trauma or surgery, the person may go into shock and die, that transfusion may save the life.
You will recall that Jesus condemned people who thought they were obeying God by giving offerings to God while withholding their support of their parents. He said it was a Sin, violating the fifth Commandment.
Likewise when you withhold a transfusion, you are violating the commandment that says: "Thou Shalt Not Kill."
If their religious peculiarities result in death, they must answer to the God of love--yes, God's commandments are only fulfilled through love.
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

if you read the Bible from the VERY beginning, you will start to see how God views blood as sacred, and when a life is taken, it MUST be poured out onto the ground.
Apostle Paul and ALL the other remaining Apostles verified the sanctity of blood (both human and animal) by commanding the Christians to 'keep abstaining from blood.'
it is scientific fact that it is more physically harmful to take blood into your veins than it is to actually eat it. blood is also not 'universally interchangeable.' it is HIGHLY unique to each person, and should NEVER have been approved for transmission into another human.
The Most Important Reason of All is; God forbids improper use of blood.
Why? 'Because the SOUL is in the blood.'

(Genesis 9:4) Only flesh with its soul—its blood—YOU must not eat.
(Leviticus 3:17) “‘It is a statute to time indefinite for YOUR generations, in all YOUR dwelling places: YOU must not eat any fat or any blood at all.’”
(Leviticus 7:26) “‘And YOU must not eat any blood in any places where YOU dwell, whether that of fowl or that of beast.
(Leviticus 17:11) For the soul of the flesh is in the blood, and I myself have put it upon the altar for YOU to make atonement for YOUR souls, because it is the blood that makes atonement by the soul [in it].
Jehovah God holds blood to be precious.
To have a full blood transfusion on the basis of saving a life goes against the meaning of the law.
however, some blood components can be acceptable. Like those components that are able to pass from a mother to a child in the womb to give the child immunity from disease. It is important to remember that the blood supply of the mother and child are completely separate. Yet thes components can transfer.
whole blood cannot.
The Watchtower society has published a very informative booklet on the subject. Any J.W. can secure a copy for you.
