did you hand in your notice before you went off for the week?

You are contractually and legally required to work for notice period. However, if you don't what can they do....maybe not pay you for that week.

If you quit a job and fail to give notice, all they can do is not pay you.

In fact, if they give you the holiday it will save them some money (as they would have to pay you for the holiday time that you accumulated).

The result will be what you negotiate with your manager. If you have to train a replacement then they will be reluctant to let you leave quickly. Though you can negotiate it so they can call you anytime in the new job.

If you are easily replaced and many people know how to do your job then they probably won't mind. Try and keep the process of leaving fairly nice and pleasant, and they are likely to do the same.

Depends on how long you've worked at your current company. If you've worked there long enough to have earnt the holidays, then you are still entitled to take them. If not, you may still be allowed to take them but will have to compensate the company (i.e. pay them) to get the time off.

Try to negoiate a notice period that coincides with your holiday. If you're going to be sitting around the office doing nothing all day, then tell tehm that and they may let you go.

Two weeks notice is more sufficient. If you have a two-weeks of paid vacation on your current job, feel free to use it. Take two weeks off as a way to rest and enjoy relaxation.

Life is too short for being overworked.

It depends how your employer feels about it. It should say something in your contract. I know that technically I have to work my notice excluding holidays but my employer is very leniant with this rule, so you may be lucky.

No its a holiday.
The only reason you may not be allowed it is dependant on:
how long have you worked there for and are you entitled to the holiday?

Hi
No, remember holidays are now mandatory, and not grace and favour as they used to be, if your employer agreed to give you the holiday thy cannot now renege on that.
