I was raised Catholic, but it never fit right for me. I don't believe in confession; doesn't seem right that God can hear my every prayer, but someone else needs to hear everything wrong I've done. I don't believe that the Bible is literally the direct text spoken by God. It's been hand written over many languages for centuries and by politically motivated figures many times. I do beleive that the Bible is a very important text, it has stories that should guide us all in a life of moral strength. I don't support the split in religion and science, I think the formation of the universe (big bang) and evolution are correct, but are the work of God. So is there any religion/denomination out there that holds similar beleifs? And if you don't agree with 100% of everything in your faith, does that make it wrong or hippocritical to practice that faith?

Okay, by the way, for those who couldn't connect the dots. I do believe in God, Jesus, Heaven & Hell. And I attend Baptist services because that's what my wife is, but they are with the group that are literal in their interpretation of the Bible. Also, I am not looking for "spiritual comfort" I want to worship and practice my faith based on what I beleive, not just go to church to go, like so many people do.

You should avoid the more fundamentalist Protestant denominations, such as Baptist, but you could probably comfortably worship as a Methodist, a Lutheran or several other denominations.

Many churches teach the Bible as the word of God, but the degree of that is subject to individual interpretation and beliefs.

I am a bit more flexible than my Church of Christ brethren in my interpretation, but I understand we must take the position that the Bible is the word of God. If you deny that you open the door for much more denial.

I don't think it is hypocritical. Most if not all Christians have doubts--that is even addressed in the Bible.

The Big Bang and evolution are theories--actually a work in progress. Evolution as it is commonly believed now is different from the theory proposed by Darwin more than a century and a half ago.

However I believe God directed these events however they happened and in many ways the Big Bang is closer to the Genesis account than many other theories on the origin of the earth.

The Bible is an amazing document--a powerful guide for the believer. Most of the better translations were the product of groups of translators and theologists. I believe it remains valuable but subject to some interpretation and adaptation.

Your doubts are very common. You could have them and remain a Catholic, but you could also choose another church. I would suggest trying several before you decide.

Well , i am a catholic and have faith for everything, and it's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray. For me , i do believe in God/faith. God says, I will instruct you in the way which you should go, I will counsel you and watch over you.

You believe basically everything that I do. I attend a non-denominational church. Although those aren't the specific teachings of my church, they don't look down as much on free thinking as some other churches do.

Find yourself a baptist church and the truth will set you free. Or if no baptist find a bible preaching church (non-denom.)

...after reading about what you "don't believe", I think you need to start your own church... there, you could teach what you do believe...(which I'm not sure about)... but it would give you the "spiritual comfort" that you're looking for... Please, with all due respect... Gods Words have not and will not change to fit our "spiritual discomfort"...
