I work in wedding videography and I was wondering if photoshop is useful in video or in photos only.

Photoshop is an all-purpose multimedia tool. Even in videography, a lot of the backgrounds can be touched up and redefined in Photoshop and then imported in Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects or Combustion. Due to the interoperability of these products, they're essential for a seamless workflow.

A lot of big studio houses like Pixar and Disney often use still backgrounds and pre-rendred scenes to speed up the production process.

I suggest to you Apple's Final Cut Studio 2.

This is the best software out there for EVERYTHING VIDEO all in one! You can import your footage, and work with the color directly...The software is a full on workflow and I think that anyone doing video should have this. It IS a bit on the pricy side though. BUT SO worth it in the long run!

Photoshop is a useful program for SO MANY different creative things. It IS used in video at times, however I do not think it is used much for color corrections. I'd stick w/ color software specifically created for Video.

Good luck and enjoy. This software opened up so much for me!

** not sure if you can purchase Just the COLOR software or not but it is so great!

I'm not sure exactely what you're looking for, but I work for the Sheriffs department crime lab and we use photoshop all the time to enhance fingerprints before comparing them or running them on AFIS. If you use the contrast and levels filters you can usually brighten/darken and clean up an image fairly well.
