I bought a set of amplified rabbit ears for the TV in the bedroom, they work ok, but inside a metal building the picture isn't too hot anyway. I knew guys in the dorms when I was in school who used aluminum foil wrapped sort of like a flag on a flagpole near the end of the antennae. This helped, and there were no TV stations less than 50 miles away there. The foil should be thick, so it will be able to stay in the position you leave it. My tv in the bedroom is against the wall, so the antennae can't move in anything but about 180 degrees, they can't really point back behind the tv. A set of rabbit ears is like a dipole and with a dipole the best reception is off the sides, rather than off the points. So, if you have a station that's east of you, the antennae points will be pointing north and south.
For channels above 13, you need to have one of those little loops that attach to the UHF terminals on the back of the TV. Otherwise, get a set of rabbit ears that will handle channels 2-13 and 14 and above, the settings are different. On the set I got, it has the two rabbit ears and a black plastic hoop that can be moved. The black plastic hoop is the antenna for the UHF channels. The ears are for the VHF channels. The amplifier is a solid state device with a multisetting knob, just twist it around until you get the best picture.

RE:
How can I get the most TV channels with rabbit ears?
I have a cheap Daewoo TV set (model #: DTQ-19V1FC) which has a NTSC built-in tuner and I was thinking about getting some rabbit ears to be able to watch some TV. I would like to know what kind of rabbit ears I should get to get the most channels other than the typical 12. I heard something about...

"Rabbit Ears" are a cheap type of TV antenna. It's called that because it has two telescoping rods that stick up like a couple of ears. These start at about $10 at Walmart. The two rods mostly pick up analog channels 2-13. Usually there is another part of the antenna that mostly picks up analog channels 14-69. This part would look like a loop, figure eight, or bow-tie.
If you enter you zip code at http://www.antennaweb.org , you can find out what channels you might be able to receive.
Indoor antennas can be notoriously finicky because the quality of TV signals is greatly dependent on the materials in the buildings that are between the TV and the transmitting antennas that the TV stations are using. Your neighbor's experience is your best guide.
This business about digital and analog tuners is (more or less) separate from antenna issue. The same antennas can receive both analog and digital TV signals.
After 2/09 almost all free TV signals in the US will be digital. So after then you will need a converter box for your old TV to see OTA (over the air) TV channels. Starting in 1/08, the government will have a coupon program that will let you buy a converter box for about $20. The box (CECB) will let your old TV receive all the new digital channels. The programing on the free digital channels is mostly the same as the old analog channels, it's just in better quality.
The Feb 09 date is for OTA TV only. Cable and satellite companies do not have to cut off analog signals.
Old type OTA TV signals = NTSC = "Analog TV"
New type OTA TV signals = ATSC = "Digital TV" = DTV
OTA = "Over the Air" = stuff you get through your TV antenna

That IS ODD....A good POWERFUL TV station can't be picked up at all??? Can you DIRECT DIAL in the station number and get ANYTHING? Try it.... Example....Dial in whatever channel number it is with the Numbered Buttons....Hit enter/select button and see what you get... Try the SAME Channel but with the Dash-One (or Dot-1)....ANY Signal? Leave it on the MAIN channel and move your antenna, then try the channel with the Dash-1 (or Dot 1), and move your rabbit ears around, up/down -- left/right -- twist clockwise/counterclockwise. ANY SIGNAL? Try the rabbit ears on another TV set....NO SIGNAL? <> Get another antenna.... Barely perceptible signal on the Channel while NOT DIALING in Dot-1 or Dash-1 would mean a bad antenna, OR just BAD Placement of the antenna....that's why I had you move it in all 3 directions.... I'd even suggest getting another antenna first, AND a 20db RF amplifier from RADIO SHACK and trying that.....BEFORE calling a TV repairman in the Yellow Pages..... IF you're getting ALL your other TV stations, most likely the antenna is bad and there is absolutely no problem with the TV.....
