Ok. If u want private lessons, go to ur local music shop & see if anyone's advertising. Otherwise, yes, buy a tuner (unless the dvd has tuning notes on it.) Choose simple chords ( A D E ) are good and practise each one individually, the try changing between them The dvd wil presumably have song suggestions on it, but early rock n roll is always fun ( Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode for example).Hope this helps.

The best tip, i think, is not to expect to much to soon. i have seen many newbies fall into the trap of expecting to play like thier heros within weeks. but then, when they don't they become disallusioned and give up.
take things slow at first, some simple chordal exersicses, and some easy licks. (search for song of joy, beethoven, in the open position) and slowly build a good fluid motion with both hands.
Another tip is to learn the real notes on the fret board.
a very good website, which gives you a vast amount on guitar including tabs, forums, lessons. is ultimate-guitar.com

It can never be too late to learn music or a new instrument.
but dont think you can pick up the guitar and be the next Jimi Hendrix (then again, maybe you can ;) ).
Learning music is all about one thing:
PRACTISE
PRACTISE
PRACTISE.
If you doing something wrong, you are not practising enough.
If you got it right, carry on practising.
The trick is to make it fun.
Also learn some music theory, itll help stax!
Good luck!

It would be helpful if you have a friend who can help you to get started. Otherwise, borrow a book from the library or find instructions on the Web.

Keep your nails clipped, it will make fingering chords easier. Invest in an electronic tuner, they usually run about 20-30 dollars. Have a second set of strings ready in case you break one. Invest in a strap. keep plenty of picks handy.

If you don't have success right away learning on your own - DON'T BE DISCOURAGED!

Keep this in mind . . . if it were easy, EVERYBODY would play guitar.
Chords & scales & scales & chords over and over and over again and again and again then, start over from the beginning.
