Start by getting your baby's hearing checked.
If her hearing is ok, then I really wouldn't worry too much, as others have stated every child develops at their own pace. My son didn't speak until he started preschool at 3! (and when he did, it was complete sentences!)
Try teaching your daughter some basic sign language. That worked GREAT with my son, before he spoke. He caught on really quickly and it made communicating so much easier. This way you can at least interact with her and she can find a way to finally tell you what she wants, instead of having to cry for it.
It makes life much easier!

Right now, don't worry about it. Even if it is something that makes it so that she has diminished communication skills, at only 1 year old, they won't be able to determine exactly what it is. Keep it in the back of your mind for now, and if it is still a problem in the future, then talk to your doctor.
Something that might help is talking to her like an older child. That is meaning that the "Baby talk" goo-goo ga-ga should be a no-no. Talk to her like you would talk to a 6 year old. Don't talk down to her, but explain things to her in a way that a child would understand.

Nothing is wrong. What I have noticed in babies is that each of them work on what interests them the most. One might walk at 10 months and another not til 14 months but the one walking at 14 months is advanced in something else because its all about what their own interests are.
Also oldest babies seem to do things faster and will even talk for their younger siblings so the younger one has no need to hurry to talk. Youre worrying too much. Just let her do it in her own time.

Every baby is different.
Not talking by age one is within the range of 'normal'. And even outside the range of normal, things can still be ok.
I recall my mom telling me she used to worry about me as a baby becaue I didn't start talking until sometime around age 3. I've turned out pretty normal (but math and science have been my strongest subjects, English and liturature my weakest).

This is normal. You just have a talkative one first. My first wasn't talkative at all and we couldn't even understand her when she was 3. The only time you need to worry about this is if she doesn't seem to be able to see or hear you. If either of those seem to be the case, get her checked out. Otherwise, she is content to not talk yet, and nothing to worry about. She just is a late bloomer.

welly first off everyone is different. And second go to her dr and have her checked, a dr would tell u if their is anything to worry about, or maybe shes just not ready. talk to her as much as u can tho.. does ur family yell a lot? she could just be following what she hears.

We went through the same thing and nervousness with our second child. All kids develop at their own rate. One day when our second child was about 12-13 months, she started speaking in sentences and we haven't been able to shut her up since. :)

Go to the doctor's and have her examined. She might not talk or point if everyone caters to her and she doesn't have to communicate.
