Do you know what Mass is? The answer is in the question. Mass is in fact a worship service. True worship of the true God. Christ is present. The worship in heaven described in the Book of Revelation is mirrored. During Mass, the worship on earth and worship in heaven become united. It's not just reading along with the pastor for a verse or two and then listening to him preach on that for the next hour. It is actually worship. Bible study comes to Catholics another time.
Once you learn the truth of Catholicism and learn just what is going on in Mass, you can never go anywhere else.

Because this is the way the early Church worshiped. We are a people of great Traditions.
The Mass:
+ Is the principal sacramental celebration of the Catholic Church
+ Was established by Jesus at the Last Supper
+ Renews the mystery of our salvation through participation in the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Christ
In the Mass, we:
+ Gather as one family
+ Admit our sins, ask God for forgiveness, and the saints and each other for prayer and support
+ Glorify God
+ Listen to, ponder and reflect on His Word from the Scriptures
+ Pray for the Church, the world, those in need, and ourselves
+ Celebrate the Eucharist (Holy Communion) in obedience with Christ's command to "do this in memory of me."
+ Are sent out into the world to love and serve the Lord and one another
It is called "Mass" (from the Latin missa) because of the "mission" or "sending" with which the liturgical celebration concludes.
For more information, see the General Instruction of the Roman Missal: http://www.usccb.org/liturgy/current/chapter2.shtml#sect3a
With love in Christ.

A good way to describe the Mass is to say that it is Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday made present today in ritual. It is not merely a meal which reminds us of the Last Supper, or a Passion Play which helps recall Good Friday, or a Sunrise Service which celebrates the Lord”s Resurrection. It is Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
You can read a very good article that explains the Mass at http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0889.asp
Peace be with you.

The Mass is the eternal fulfillment of the Jewish Passover in Christ, it's the primary celebration of the new covenant, and its' also the way we proclaim Christ's death, until he comes again ... just as he personally commanded us to do.
It's also the only way to experience Jesus "in the flesh" in this world, and to unite our meager offerings with his one time, once for all, perfect and eternal sacrifice, for the sins of the world.
The Mass is also the temporal version of the "marriage supper of the Lamb" in heaven, and it mirrors the way the saints and the martyrs pray to God there, too.
The perfect preparation for an eternity in heaven, you can't do any better than that, and still be alive here on earth.

During the Last Supper, for some reason, Jesus said "In the future have supper in my memory". So the apostles took this literally and with the pass of time the Mass was and is the way Catholics re-enact the Last Supper, the time they think Christ made clear that He was going to die for our sins.
