You can't force feed anorexics. They have such an aversion to food that they will find all kinds of ways to get it out of their bodies. They'll hide food, use laxatives, induce vomiting, and even engage in excessive amounts of exercise. What has to be done is to work with the person and try to find out the emotional causes of this eating disorder. Then and only then will they start improving.

Doctors should not force feed anorexic patients unless it gets to a point where they are severely risking their health at that moment (because obviously any anorexia can be a severe risk to your health, but I mean if a person is disgustingly underweight, then they need to be force fed up to a less risky weight, and from there get them help from a therapist (or someone of the sort). )

Actually, in general, if a person is anorexic, as long as they don't start trying to get underweight, getting them to stop trying to lose weight won't help at all. Helping them achieve their goal weight or thinness (as long as it's within the healthy range, once again) in healthier ways is the only way to stop them. I know so many people that developed eating disorders because it was easier for them to lose that certain amount of weight they wanted to drop that way; they would be satisfied when they had reached a certain thinness, and I know a lot of them actually did stop when they got there. They kept the whole thing a secret until months after they had stopped, and since no one had mentioned that they seemed too thin or anything (they noticed they had lost weight, but not by means of an eating disorder) people were slightly shocked when they found out, but they weren't freaking out about it because those with the eating disorders had actually stopped. Sorry I know I'm getting off to a slightly different tangent, but that's my general opinion on Anorexia.

My belief, if the anorexic patient is still in the right state of mind despite the ED then No. I do believe however that a doctor should connect an IV to an anorexic patient to give them the nutirents they need.
I believe force feeding should only be done as a last resort. and I mean really last resort like the patient will die within hours if not fed.
