How many troopers in the 82nd airborne ? ...i keep reading 5000 but how is that possible considering the division has 4 brigades .

The 10th Mountain Division, which is light Infantry, is known for many things, but ironically, they were involved in the rescue of those that many of you call the best!

Amongst these have been the famous rescue of downed Navy SEALs during "Operation Anaconda".

Cantcu's already answered the question, so I'll just add a bit more.

Keep in mind that there are no fixed or uniform number of troops per military grouping type. Some Regiments consist of several Battalions, some Regiments are smaller than your average Battalion, and some Divisions and Brigades are absolutely massive.

Each brigade has about 1200 men, so thats about right...
