I was recently diagnosed with a breast tumor over a week ago and am due for a biopsy in several days. The tumor is about 2 cm; it is not really painless, and it feels round, squishy, and moveable when I touch my breast. Breast cancer (and any other type of cancer) does not run in my family (even though breast cysts are common in it). I am also just turning 22 years old. Has anyone gone through this? Should I worry?

Mature answers preferred. Thanks!

At 22 the chances of this being breast cancer is very small. It sounds like this is a benign fibroma or a cyst. Nine out of ten biopsies are benign. However, your doctor is right in having it biopsied. Go get it biopsied and stop worrying. You dont have a family history of breast cancer, you are young. No, dont worry. You are probably worrying for nothing. Hope this helps. Please let us know the results. Take care.

At your age it probably is a benign cyst but take no chances. From personal experience let me say that I have 2 sisters who have had the same kind of benign cysts throughout their lives. I am a guy and 23 months ago was diagnosed with breast cancer (yes guys can get it). My tumor started out as a little pebble and by the time I got around to getting it diagnosed 6.5 years later it had grown to 7.5 inches at its widest point. Chemo and radiation shrunk it to 4 inches and they yanked it out 14 months ago. But by the time it had gotten diagnosed it had already spread to my bones and lymph nodes (they took out 9 lymph nodes at the time they took out the tumor and all 9 were positive for cancer). 4 weeks ago I found out that my monthly treatments were not working and the cancer is spreading. Cancer runs the 3 minute mile in my family (dad died of colon/pancreatic cancer and mom survived breast cancer).
I'd say worry some until the biopsy is completed. Don't worry alot but some. I'm 47 (45 at the time of diagnosis). Good luck

I was only 28 when I was diagnosed with no family history or any of the risk factors.

Remember, 80% of breast lumps are NOT cancerous. So the odds are definitely in your favor.

There are some women who get it very young for no discernable reason though. You're doing the right thing by getting it biopsied!!

There's some great information for young women at youngsurvival.org.

This all sounds more like a cyst than cancer.

However, you are wise to have it checked to be sure.

All of my symptoms pointed to a cyst (even with a genetic link to cancer and being in my mid 40's).

On biopsy it was found to be a form of cancer rarely found in the breast.

I am glad I went for the biopsy!

Most likely it isn't cancer, but always worth checking it out.
