The idea in the Catholic Church of hell has changed significantly. Hell is now thought not to be a place but rather a state of being where one is absant from the presence of God after death. Being out of God's presence must be a horrible feeling. Now what's it's population? There is no way to tell really. There have been billions upon billions of good and evil people in the world. Does God eventually forgive and send all people to heaven? We just don't know.

Heaven gets all unborn and killed children, right? Population of heaven has to be pretty high. Everyone whose lived a few years, though, is probably in hell. Especially if the mormons are right.
Probably Heaven: 3 billion
Hell: 80 Billion

Heaven: 0
Hell: 952, 005, 356, 988, 326, 776, 528, 246, 854, 246, 229, 840, 990, 080, 141, 220 and counting

This of course is based on the fact that nobody could have it right with so many religions telling you that they are right.

Dude...it's overflowing....so now I believe there are improvements being made....if my sources are correct, the route for this generation would be Heaven, apt 4 billion 3 million 4 hundred thousand, and Hell would be plus or minus a billion at that.....
That's right folks....god got so angry at the fact his nice world is overcrowding, that he was forced to make other heavens for everyone to go around :)

Right now heaven contains God, Jesus, and the angels. Depending on which parts of the Bible you read, it might also contain the saints who have died, or they might be asleep; or maybe there's a dormitory in heaven where they sleep until their bodies are resurrected. If you believe Middle Eastern and African mythology, there are also good jinn in heaven. I can't give you numbers.
Hell right now contains nobody. It is a place prepared for the devil and his angels, and if you believe Middle Eastern and African mythology, the bad jinn. The Bible says the unrighteous dead are held in prison until judgment day, which hasn't happened yet, after which they will be burned to ash. OR judgment day occurs day-by-day right as people die and all the dead evil people in the world are in hell burning to ash right now. I don't find much Biblical evidence for that one, though.

I'm not concerned of the population in Hell/Heaven.

It is the population explosion in China and in India that worries me.

I know there Is. The Bible Speaks of both. Jesus spoke twice as much about hell than heaven. Because He didn't want anyone to go there. It Is not God's will that Any should perish.

The population that ever lived would be comparable to how many are presently alive. (The estimate that I have heard) I would estimate about 6 Billion or so in all history, those that have died but brought us to this point. I cannot estimate what God will do. There must be many in paradise, and the grave presently.
