First, if you're going to gamble in the first place, you must pre-set a maximum amount you're going to lose. Obviously this amount must be low enough that it is not going to adversely affect you or your family if you lose it all. Then, when you walk in the casino, or sit down at the table, or whatever, think of that amount as an 'Entertainment Expense'. If you lose it all, you spent it being entertained playing games (as opposed to going to a movie, golfing, bowling, etc.)

Secondly, you must stick to your pre-set limit. If you have to, only take the pre-set amount in cash with you - leaving your check book and credit card(s) at home.

However, if you find yourself consistently gambling away more than you can afford for 'entertainment' purposes, or, if you can't stick to your pre-set limits, you need to face the fact that you might be addicted to gambling and should either 1) stay away from gambling altogether and/or 2) seek professional help.

Hope this helps.

As well as getting professional counseling, make your money less available to you. Do not have a credit card, debit card, or checks. Total up all your needs for rent/housing/food/bills/ etc and pay for it all at once the day you get your money with cashiers checks from the bank made out directly to whom you need to pay.

By itself, making your money less available will not do it, you must get to the reason behind why you waste so much money gambling. If it's a thrill you seek, run 25 miles. If you are still alive at the end, you will be a bigger thrill seeker than any short adrenaline rush you get at a table.

It's obvious that the question was misunderstood by all who have submitted an answer so far. the question was "how can I stop wasting money 'for' gambling?" all answers so far have given response to the question "how can I stop wasting money 'on' gambling?"
I've found that alot of money, for gambling, can be saved by actually not paying certain bills. There are many was to stop wasting your gambling money, it's up to you to figure them out!

I used to take just the amount of money that I was ok to spend and put that in my pocket and take the rest of the money that I really needed for bills and lock it in the trunk of my car with the trunk key.
It is way too embarrasing to be out in the parking lot of someplace tearing out your back seat just to play a game.
It' s hard to do....
But just tear yourself away from where you are. Just do IT.

Buy into an index fund and watch it go up and down. In theory you are investing, but you can get your kicks watching the roller coaster ride.
