General rule for catfish is the stinkier the bait the better. I've even heard of guys stopping at roadkill skunk and rubbing their rubber worms etc on it (wear plastic gloves etc )
I once caught a good sized one on a worm made of bubble gum when I ran out of worms (doesn't say much about my breath does it ;).
MY town in Ontario Canada has an annual week long Mudcat festival. Towns called Dunnville, can't remember the website but a search should find it.
Good luck and remember a bad day fishing beats a good day at work.

That depends on which type of catfish you are fishing for and what water your fishing. My main baits are herring (cut are whole), shad (cut are whole), chicken livers covered in garlic salt and live bait fish (bream, crappie, goldfish depending on your local laws). I saw where one person said soap baits and while they do work they are a slow bite, meaning they do better on a trot line. If all else fails are is not available I would also recommend good old night crawlers and dead minnows.

The best bait I found so far is to take some chicken livers. Put them on treble hooks, place the chicken livers in a glass jar with some blue cheese in it that covers the hook. leave the line end of the hook up out of the blue cheese. Then put a lid on the jar and set it out in the sun for a couple of days. Take it as is, in the jar, with you to fish. Remove a baited hook from the jar and reclose the jar. Don't make the mistake of trying to see what it smells like when you open the jar!!! WHEW!!!

Cat fishing, not a brain storm fish to catch you can get them on a lot of bait. cut bait for the big cats, worm, hot dogs, for the smaller cats. the bigger the bait the bigger the fish.

Chicken livers, or do what I do and use your cast net to catch small bluegill or shiners to use as live bait. If you use chicken liver's, I've learned that they take the bait too easy so I've found out that pantyhose hose the bait really well.

Get some chicken livers in the morning and let them stew and get nasty outside during the day, then at night when you go catfishing (since night is the best time to catch cats) you'll tear 'em up.

When I was a kid in south Texas, we'd fish the canals for catfish using raw chicken livers on a treble hook.
