America safer?

Terrorism has happened and will happen. How is one person suppose to give an answer that claims, "Yes, America is now safer."

Obviously ALL Americans thought America was safe until the events unfolded on 9/11, right?

So, please, by all means explain to me how the General, or anyone, can definitively answer a Yes to that question.

Gas; agreed, but the fact is, Werner asked about the occupation in Iraq, not Afghanistan.

Ere; the point is, if he were to answer yes America is safer, and another event similar to 9/11 unfolded, it's basically shooting all credability he has. Answer no, and you're seen as ineffective.

You can't, obviously. Particularly since the so-called GWOT has nothing to do with Iraq.

Only the foolish believed America was safe prior to 9/11. It was a terrifying wake-up call for the mentally deficient.

I am absolutely proud of Senator WARNER's stand with general Betrayus. The commonwealth of Virginia has a lot to gain by supporting the War because we are the home of may companies that are making money from the war. So to have both Senator Webb(D) and Senator Warner(R) against the war is a bellwether for the rest of the nation.

You can not prove a negative. The current administration uses obfuscation, red herrings appeals to the masses and with Gen P appeal by authority to justify continuing this war. Warner attempted to push through the rhetoric to get to the truth.

Obfuscation is the concealment of meaning in communication, making it confusing and harder to interpret.

Can you give a definitive no? How many terrorist attacks have occurred on US soil since we began the War on Terror?

The real truth in my opinion is that we are safer now, then we were before 9/11. However, like you said terrorism has been around since the beginning of time and will always be around unless you defeat and kill each and every terrorist. I believe that would be a near impossible feat. What we are doing now is disrupting them and has them disorganized to a point. However, they are adaptive people and it is a matter of time before they regroup and possibly come back even stronger than before. Which is why the US needs to stay at it.

We are in an imperfect world, and it is obvious that demanding a definitive answer in a fluid situation is assuming the risk that the answer you get is a best guess. For some reason we then blame the guesser when we follow his advice.

You are more likely to be killed in a car accident than by a terrorist. You are more likely to to be killed by an unregistered handgun in the hand of a family member than by a terrorist. You are even more likely to have sex with Pamela Anderson than be killed by a terrorist, and that is not very likely at all. What are we so afraid of?

If a serial killer was captured wouldnt it be correct to say the town he was doing it in was now safer? You are not saying it is completley safe, but safer. A person who we know was killing people is no longer on the streets to kill, Doesnt mean no one else will be killed but he will claim no more victims

So yes it is possible for one man to make this statement. He is not sying safe but safer

It was an idiotic question asked by a very stupid disgusting republican. He was trying to lead the general into a trap so he could discredit him. Warner is the enemy or is doing the job of the enemy. I will never understand what possesses someone to be such an idiot. He must be pandering in the lowest way that a politician can to the left for some incomprehensible reason.

It's an unknown quantity. It makes the pretence that American intelligence is perfect and we all know that is wrong.
