Just read between the lines. It just relates the word "swallows" with "admitting" to the actual meaning of "swallow" as related to "eating". It just means that knowing that you are wrong and admitting your mistakes or misgivings will not hurt you as a person. As compared to when eating a lot (aka: binging) which can totally lead to indigestion, being humble and apologizing for any mistakes shouldn't be too hard for us or will not harm us, but because we are willing to accept the fact that everybody makes mistakes and is a common trait of being human. Because of this fact, there should be no room for pride in any of us.

It's usually best to put one's pride aside and humble oneself by admitting you were wrong when you don't want to or apologizing. It goes well with the proverb, "Pride comes before the fall." Falling is embarassing too and can lead to indigestion and blushing.

Well I think the key word is indigestion as it implies lasting suffering. So swallowing your pride may hurt, but you wont endure anything extended upon that.
