If you can handle the pain of getting a wrist tattoo then your back should be a piece of cake!
I have 27 tattoos -- including leg sleeve, back, and wrist. For me, the wrist was more painful than any other area.
Just goes to show that different people have different levels of pain tolerance and painful areas.
Good luck with the new ink!

Yes, near the bone does hurt more. I have four but the one on my ankle was the only one near a bone & I could definately feel a difference. In saying that, the pain was bearable & my ankle tattoo is obviously small, so only took about 15 mins to do. But, there's more flesh around the shoulderblade than the ankle, so it may not be that bad. Basically, if you got through th wrist one ok, this should be ok to handle too. Take 2 Neurofen about 20 mins before your appointment as this will numb the pain area.

i have my whole back tattooed and the shoulder was the least painful part of the whole back. i don't know why but it was. it wasn't painless but it wasn't as bad as other parts had been. also pain factor has to do with how many needles are used. on the first side i had done only a grouping of about 7 needles were used. on the second shoulder a grouping of 13 needles were used and it hurt MUCH worse than the first side but it went a lot faster.

I have one on my shoulder blade and it didn't hurt as bad as some of my other ones. I am small so there is not a lot of meat between my skin and my shoulder bone.

I have a tatoo on my shoulder blade, I think if you can handle one on your wrist (wich I would think would be painful over all them vains) getting one on your shoulder blade will be a walk in the park.by the way it never vibrated my bones, when i got done on my shoulder blade.

I think closer to the bone hurts.
I have one on my behind - which I hardly felt.
One around my belly button which took quite a while but I don't recall it hurting heaps and then one on my foot - that really hurt!

It has to do with the number of nerve endings in the area, not the bone! The shoulder is not particularly heavy with pain sensing nerves.

I have one on my shoulder and I was told it would hurt really bad, but it didn't at all, I sat right through it and didn't make a sound.
