How do I know whether I should do something or wait for God? Sometimes I can't tell because it says in the bible that you have to rely everything on God and that at the same time, that's like praying to God for money but not working... or praying to God for successfullness but not doing anything... But this problem isn't about any of those, and how can you tell whether you have to do something or that you should just wait?

I am not exactly sure what you are specifically asking about.. But God is not going to directly hand things to you.. and in the Bible it says that we are suppose to work.. I say do everything in YOUR control to make things the way they should be and then leave the things that you have no control over to God..

Like for example,, If you are ..overweight , you can't just sit on the couch eating ice cream and potato chips and pray to God and expect to drop the weight.. That you have to work for. NOW you can Exercise and control your diet and pray to God for strength and self control.

Or another example ... Say you are flying in an airplane.... You getting back on the ground safely is not in your hands(unless of course you are the pilot). SO you could pray to God for a safe trip and pray that the pilot knows what he is doing..

ANyway Good luck to and God bless.. I hopethis answers your question.

EDITED!!

Okay I just looked at your previous question... PLEASE TELL ME THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT QUESTION>> If it does YOU REALLY NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE>> I KNOW GOD WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO DO THAT, whether You are the one asking or someone asked you..... I really hope everything works out for you honey..I don't know your situation but I really wish you the best.. God Bless.. But I really hope this has nothing to do with that question..

The russians have a saying that goes something like 'if you are rowing across a lake and your oar breaks and your boat springs a leak, pray to God for help and dog paddle like mad"

The scriptures that talk about relying on God are not telling you to just surrender your responsibility for your own life, they are telling you to keep God in your thinking while making the choices you need to make. People have a tendancy towards selfishness so meditating on what God would want you to do and the principles and instructions contained in the Bible, will help you to make better decisions that have a wider more balanced viewpoint that what you would have if you relied soley on yourself for advice.

Of course your decision, when made under those conditions (taking God's thoughts into account), might be to wait and see ... smiles ... but it will be a decision based on the best information you have at the time and that is still doing something. 'Carry your own load' Galatians 6:5 says and that means be willing to take responsibility for what you decide to do or not to do.

I can't tell from your question your age, however it seems to me you are younger than I. I am 51 years old & have seen & done a lot in my time. The one thing I can say with complete confidence is that my relationship with God is the best it has ever been. To understand the answer to your question may I suggest that you first improve your personal relationship with God because then and only then will you know the answer to the question you ask. Each of us that has that relationship knows almost without thinking what to leave to God - in short my answer is ... leave everything to Him who created you and all that you seek will be found.

It also says to pray without ceasing. Do you belong to a church? This question should be answered a preacher, for me it is to work and live life as it comes. I pray several times a day but unlike the Muslims, I do it in private. To me it is like the religious leaders in the Bible where Jesus said, "Do not pray public a great and elaborate prayer for they have received they reward. Pray in private." That is not a word for word quote but quoted from memory. To get a answer to your question is easy for God always answers, not no later or it is not for you.

God leads us all. If you have peace in your heart you know that you are walking in God's will. Yes God wants us to work even while He is doing other things that don't relate to what we are doing today. Remember that God can take you through anything but don't sit around just waiting be about the work you have to do today.

Waiting is hard.
When I feel the urge to do something and it nags me, I do it. You have surely heard the story of the man on his roof with his house in rising flood water who refused several rescuers saying 'the lord will save me'. He drown and then asked why. God replied "I sent you a boat, a helicopter, and a raft".

edit: several answers quote 'the Lord helps those who help themselves'. It is not a quote from the bible. Just as 'the lion lays down with the lamb' is not accurate.
Just thought you might like to know.

If there is a God (from the agnostic perspective), I would think He would want you to be proactive in every situation. Even if you make the situation worse through the specific action you chose, at least you've learned a lesson. The best lessons are those that you have to get wrong once or twice before you get it right (from a teacher's perspective).

You should never just sit and wait.... The Bible doesn't say "Sit stagnant and let God handle it"... It says to meet Him halfway... Go halfway and God will meet you in the middle. Look, the way I see it -- it's like this-

A man prays every morning to hit the lottery... Yet, this man never bought a lottery ticket in his life... How is God supposed to help this man....

This is a silly analogy, but think about it... You'll know what I mean.

DON'T TRY TO FORCE ISSUES. IF GOD WANTS SOMETHING TO HAPPEN IT WILL HAPPEN. I AM NOT SAYING TO GIVE UP EASY WHEN CONFRONTED BY PROBLEMS BUT I AM SAYING THAT IF YOU NOTICE THAT SOMETHING JUST ISN'T WORKING OUT AT ALL, THEN MAYBE IT ISN'T IN GOD'S WILL THAT YOU CONTINUE TOWARD WHATEVER GOAL YOU WERE TRYING TO ACHIEVE. YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT GOD WANTS FROM YOU. LOVE IS A BIG PART OF IT AND NOT CAUSING HARM TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS. LISTEN TO THE THOUGHTS THAT COME TO YOUR MIND, YOU WILL KNOW WHETHER THEY ARE FROM GOD OR FROM ELSEWHERE IF YOU KNOW GOD. HE HAS A STILL SMALL VOICE INSIDE YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU CONSULT HIM, SOMETIMES YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO CONSULT HIM AND HE TRIES TO GUIDE YOU. SOMETIMES YOU ARE THE INSTRUMENT HE IS CHOOSING TO DO HIS WILL FOR ANOTHER, INCLUDING DOGS. NOW GO AND SIN NO MORE.
