Whereas China and India, whom God largely ignored until the 15th century, grew to 1/3 of the total world population? Do religions have anything to do with this? Or is it just because of circumcision?

It's actually a prophecy. G-d said that His people will always be a minority.
And although the number of Jews isn't related to circumcision, the continous existence of Jews, even when there's no logical explanation for this survival, is related to circumcision. When G-d made the Covenant with Abraham, he promised that as long as Jews observed brit milah, they'll continue to exist.
Today, there's not a logical, historical explanation for Jewish survival when, until just last century, they had no land of their own, no common language, were persecuted with several attempts at extermination and have lived in larger societies and assimilated. All these factors contribute to the fall of cultures, however, Judaism is alive and well.

God will then scatter you among the nations, and only a small number will remain among the nations where God shall lead you" (Deuteronomy 4:27).
