The best teaching I had, for my needs, was a lot of intensive relaxation techniques that helped me get entirely past stage fright.

I am a flutist, so before major competitions, I always do the warm ups that I would do any normal day when I practice. Then, I just sit and relax before a performance, listening to my ipod (NOT to what I'm about to perform) or reading a magazine. This eases my nerves because I'm not thinking about the upcoming performance and therefore, not stressing out, which can always make a performance worse. When I get on stage, lastly, I always remember to relax my shoulders and BREATHE because tension only makes things more constrainted and nerve-wracking!
Good luck (:

To lose myself in what I'm performing. Become the song, become the character.

BREATHE!

In order to be heard at the back of the house, breathe.
When you screw up and are searching for your next line, breathe.
When you're getting ready to make an entrance, breathe.

That and, at auditions, LIGHTEN UP! There'll be another play along right after this one. If you're not cast today, you'll be cast tomorrow.

Actually it's a quote from a movie, "Only the fearless can be great." i.e. you have to have the courage to take chances that may or may not work.

I learned that if I play a 'wrong' note during a solo - I should paly it again!
