Okay. I was born with ash blonde hair and started coloring my hair platinum blonde in my twenties. I've gone from white blond, to red and strawberry blond. Due to a haircolor *accident* my hair is now jet black. (since 2004) I'm in my early 40's now, and unless I shave my head (my hair is bob length) or have my hair stripped of the color, (which my stylist said would break it all off) I'm stuck with the color I have. Personally, I LIKE my hair this color (I've gotten used to it) the only problem is....I have to pencil in my eyebrows. It's a pain and when it's hot, the pencil smears. I've been thinking about just getting my eyebrows either tinted black or tattooed in. Has anyone every done this, or is anyone a hair stylist and would be able to give me expert advice on this before I take the plunge? Be kind. I'm so sick of using eyebrow pencil! Thanks!

These are ALL great answers! One question about tattooing though- I WOULD go to a special place to do this, NOT your average tattoo parlor, correct? Also, the woman who does my hair is Asian and doesn't speak a great deal of English. She cuts my hair exactly the way I like it and I have her color it as well ( I was doing it myself, but I was making a mess.) She does a great job. The last time she did my hair, I asked her if the salon tinted eyebrows, and she said, "Yes."- when I called about a week ago to make sure of this, the woman on the other end said "No! We don't do that here! Who told you that?" (of course, I didn't say.) Anyway...thanks, keep 'em coming. I was thinking of going gradually to dark brown..I'm fortunate because my skin is extremely fair (Thanks to Scottish genetics) and I don't have any wrinkles. Yet. Anyway, thanks.

I think rather than using bleach to strip it, you should try a color corrector - it'll take out a LOT of that color you've been putting on your hair and it'll leave you open for a bigger range of colors from medium brown to darkest brown, and then you could get your stylist to give you a fine weave of full head highlights...you'd avoid a lot of damage that way and still lighten your hair enough to not need to dye your brows (IT'S NOT WORTH IT. It's dangerous and they have to be re-tinted nearly weekly).

Somebody below me - Her stylist knows her hair better than you do. The stylist knows the clients hair better than the client knows it. She doesn't want to risk her clients hair and her own reputation and clientele by doing something she knows has potential for serious damage. YES IT CAN MAKE ALL YOUR HAIR BREAK OFF. I have a lot of clients with severe chemical damage from relaxers or chemicals and then colors over it...they have spots in their head where the hair is broken out in chunks.

Questioner, listen to your stylist. She knows what she's talking about, but give her suggestions you think may be appropriate. If you were mine, I'd suggest the color corrector and a semi afterwards, or full fine weave highlights. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't get them tattooed in, because once your hair finally grows out, you'll have the option of going platinum blonde again, but your tattooed eyebrows won't ever go away. Not that I'm against tattoos, not at all. I have 8, myself.

I have dyed my eyebrows before, and it worked just fine. My stylist did it, though. I wouldn't try it at home. About 15 minutes after she was finished putting the dye on my hair, she dipped her little finger in the leftover dye, and carefully put it on my eyebrows. She had me hold a towel over my eyes while she did it, on the chance that it dripped. She rubbed in it, and wiped off what smeared above and below it, and then we left it on until we rinsed out the color.

She rinsed my eyebrows using a wet towel and a tiny drop of shampoo, and then the wet towel again.

I'm naturally a brunette, kind of a mousy brown, but I've been coloring it red for about 4 years now. My eyebrows took the color very well, and I think yours would too. The only thing I feel like I should caution you on is to not leave it on too long. Since your eyebrows are blonde and you're going black, you'll only need to leave it on for a short time.

Good luck!

1. I've had tattoos and it's not nearly as bad as you would think. That'd be the easiest fix if you want it for life.

2. After all the things that told me NOT to dye my eyebrows, that chick on that one show said you can, so I did and I had NO problems whatsoever.

3. Your stylist is probably full of it. He just wants you to come back every few weeks. Have YOU ever heard of someone's hair "breaking all off"? I haven't. And I'm older than you. :)

I did it once! I dyed my hair black because I wanted to. I'm originally brunette and my eyebrows were slighlty darker. It looked kinda odd, because my eyebrows were light brown, and my hair was dark black. So I decided that I'd have my eyebrows dyed too! If you think it'll look better, go for it! Nothing's stopping you!

I have a friend who had her sparse brows tatooed to enhance them & the results were okay.

If you decide to tint your brows, be sure to go to a professional. The dye is dangerous to have close to your eyes.

You could also consider using a tinted brow gel instead of pencil. e.g. http://www.cosmeticscop.com/shop/product.asp?CODE=BTINT&PAGETYPE=M

Lastly, as women age extremely dark hair can wash out their complexions. Consider going to a slightly lighter shade gradually or having highlights added to soften it & add dimension.
