Jesus even had wine at the Last Supper ... so I guess he's not against it being here.
Too many ??? depends on the individual.

If you look in the Bible, you will see that wine was a symbol of God's blessing. The Bible also draws a distinction between wine and strong drink.
If you pay attention to science rather than religion, how about the medical research that is showing light to moderate alcohol consumption is actually a healthy habbit. Light to moderate drinking is beneficial for improved heart function, it can reduce blood clots which reduce the risk of stroke, and it improves kidney function.
Of course this all goes away if alcohol is abused. However, any substance has the potential to be abused, whether or not it is intoxicating/addictive. It doesn't matter if it is alcohol or food.
So if you want to make the decision not to drink, as a sentient being that posseses a free will, you have that right, priviledge, and ability to make that choice. But don't pass off judgment on those who choose different than you, and do so in a responsible manner.

Alcohol, like anything else on this planet, is only bad when it's abused. There are legitimate health benifits to drinking alcohol. It provides a social ice breaker and loosens up very tight wound people. Your problem seems to be with alcoholics. I have nothing to say in defense of those who over-indulge and then go and drive a vehicle or those who drink too much and become violent and verbally or physically abusive. It seems clear that some one in your life has been tragically affected by the abuse of alcohol and for that I'm sorry but one persons misfortune at the hands of someone being irresponsible is not cause enough to blame all those who enjoy and benifit from the responsible, mature drinking of liquor. As to how many is too many, too many is when you can no longer make a mature decision or act like a responsible adult. Drinking to get drunk is an example of too many. Drinking to cope with problems is an example of 1 being too many. I drink but always make sure I stop myself before I do something stupid and I never make any important decisions (such as driving or sleeping with someone) while I've had any amount of alcohol.

ALCOHOL occurs all by itself and IS a permanent part of this planet. Fallen fruits and wild yeast create alcohol all over the world. The Amarula fruit in South Africa gets thousands of animals drunk this way every year.
Fermentation by man goes back to ancient Egypt and has been developed and modified ever since most notably the invention of distillation.
It is as much a part of our history as anything. Like many other aspects moderation is key. You can say the same about most food and other beverages. Let's not overlook the mounting body of research that shows moderate alcohol consumption can extend your life, especially red wine. It is a natural product around long before we were.
How many is TOO many? That's a subjective question that nobody can answer. It sounds like there is a mitigating circumstance to your "question" which is more of a personal statement.
I make my living in the retail wine and spirits industry. My passion for wine and fine spirits puts food on the table and a roof over my family's head. My store donates over $50K a year to local charities.
Before you dismiss alcohol as a blight to the planet I would do more research and realize there are very positive aspects to its existence.

Alcohol has legitimate medical uses. I do not think it should be used as a recreational drug, which seems to be its most common usage. How many is too many depends on the circumstance. Any is too much to drink, and then drive or operate machinery. But certain religions ceremonies have used wine for millenia, and I would be hard pressed to deny people the traditional use of wine for those ceremonies. Case in point: Passover.

If you make a choice to drink there are only a few good rules.
Don't drive! Don't act stupid and get into fights. Other than that I am fine with it.
I drink wine every day with my dinner and enjoy the taste with my food. A nice red wine with steak is one of lifes great pleasures.
A scotch and a good ciagr after dinner is also very nice.
Just don't over do it and turn into an azz. lol

Maybe you should learn how to spell "alcohol" first BEFORE passing judgment on those of us who can have a good time, enjoy a tasty beverage, and still have self-control.
Sanctimonious fools like you make me want to wretch.
And to Samuel Jackson above, "I'M NOT YELLING, THIS IS HOW I TALK....HAVEN'T YOU SEEN MY MOOOOOVIES??"
And I just noticed your little diatribe there. Man, you really need to perform fellatio on a car's tailpipe and rid this world of your presence. You make me sick.
If someone you knew almost died after drinking only 12 beers, that person deserved to die, it's called natural selection. 12 beers is what I drink for breakfast.

Yes, absolutely but how many depends on the person. You've probably seen charts that show how many drinks you can have legally. For a small woman, no more than 1 per hour. For a large guy, in my opinion 2 is pushing the limit even though he might not be legally drunk.

I think it should be a choice. It's not like you have to drink it at all. But for me, I only like crisp, sweet, absolute tastes of wine, beer, and whisky. It just depends on how responsible you are. I only drink because I like the taste of them, i don't drink to be drunk like some people like to do, I know some of you don't. It's like voting or freedom of speech. There are all choices you have to make. Either the right choice or the wrong choice. Or the in the middle of road choice.

If you don't abuse it, alcohol is fine. As to "how many is too many" (notice the correct spelling on "too"), it all depends on one's tolerance of alcohol.
If you choose not to drink, good for you. Alcohol consumption is a personal choice. Those that abstain from it are generally healthier than those who choose to imbibe. Those who choose to imbibe, need to know their limitations, and stop before they are annoying idiots.
