I have heard this argument.
If intolerance to gays is not accepted, then you are intolerant.
Akin, in perhaps a more severe form, to if you are intolerant of the KKK, then you are intolerant?
Logic or smoke and mirrors??

I heard Josh McDowell use this one. I usually refrain from calling people names as well, but I think it's warranted in his case, the guy is an idiot and a nut - and that's on his more lucid days.

It is smoke and mirrors. Intolerance toward hate groups, bigotry, and violence isn't intolerance, it is justice, reason, and the ability to think critically.

Intolerance for intolerance, not for other people. Being intolerant because of skin color and sexual orientation is ridiculous - they have no choice in the matter. However, people have the option to be bigots. So it's "smoke and mirrors"

Yes, that is simple logic. We are all intolerant in one way or another. Intolerance is not a bad thing. Tolerating everyone & everything just makes you a spineless coward who can't stand up for what you believe in.

It depends on if you're making a big deal of being tolerant or not.

If you say that tolerance is a virtue but you want to quiet people who hate gays (or blacks or whites or whatever) then your intolerance isn't consistent with your values.

If you're going to say that you think everyone should be tolerant then you really have to take yourself out of the discussion because to criticize anyone makes you a hypocrite.

So, spread intolerance, and let it flourish wherever you see it.

particular, incredibly; it must be irrational, yet i think there's a feeling in not tolerating the illiberal. reckoning on reasons, needless to say. in case you belittle somebody for unfairly belittling faith or irreligion, like asserting "All Christians are morons who think of we've been all created by capacity of a huge area monster" or "All atheists are godless spawns-of-devil!" however, if somebody in simple terms says "Blargh, I hate you considering you're illiberal, i'm getting incredibly annoyed with people who get annoyed at human beings," and flow no further than that, you are able to in many circumstances shoot down their argument by capacity of using tu quoque. in case you provide a morally justified reason for not tolerating the illiberal, then the hypocrisy is immaterial, in my evaluations.

Smoke and mirrors.

Some people like to pretend that all viewpoints are equally valid. This is obviously not so. The belief that personal freedom is good is valid. The belief that slavery is good is not valid.

Intolerance is intolerance, no matter the subject or object.

Circular Logic therefore just smoke and mirrors. You are pointing out a fallacy more than anything.

That is like saying, "I believe that there is no absolute truth." Yet those people believe that there is not absolute truth absolutely. Therefore they do in fact believe in absolute truth. Hmmmm

Intolerance is based in fear. Your are 'squaring' a concept. Fear of fear, is phobiphobic, etc., and the result is a whole new vista of opinion...opinions of opinions...aaahhhhh!!!!!...
