Not everyone is cut out for the demands and structure of traditional 4 year colleges. Trade schools offer perfectly fine training in lots of fields. Apprenticeships are still available in some fields as well. Also, some people are not meant to go to college right after high school. I started college when I was 20 and now I'm starting my Master's. I waited until I was really ready. In some cases, like mine, those who don't feel meant for college when they graduate HS, may feel differently after a few years.

In Australia (where I live), there is ABSOLUTELY no pressure on students to go to college/university. There are many ways to earn a living without going to university. There are hundreds of trades that you could complete, go to the military, etc. I don't think it benefits people anymore if they go to university or not. Either way you learn different things about life and the world we live in. Yes, admittedly, you may have a better academic knowledge of the world by going to university, but what use is that if you don't know how to cope with life outside of books and exams.
Just my two cents worth.

College is not always the answer, there are many professions that require a trade school or equal that will give a person a rewarding financial and satisfying career....and at a lot less expense..but not cheap...

college is not for everyone - and not everybody should go to college right out of high school either. we all know people who can barely read and they graduate high school and somehow go on to college and somehow make it thru. college doesn't mean your smarter.
Some kids need to grow up more, work and live in the real world and pay bills for awhile first - figure out what they what.
everybody needs some additional school or training tho after high school. that's reality.

college isnt for everyone..but i think everyone needs some sort of education after high school...hair dressing school, tech school, special training (like people getting a cna license), etc...i think in order to succed you deffinitly have to complete high school and then get some sort of education afterwards..but not neccessarily at a university.

Of course not everyone can do college level work.
We keep telling our kids they can be whatever
they want to be and even they know it's not true.
However a good plumber who doesn't know
trig can make more than a college professor!
