He needs to go to the doctor, urgent care or emergency room. If the wound is still bleeding he needs to thoroughly clean the site with an anti-bacterial soap. If the wound has already closed and has clotted, leave it for the medical staff to scrub and flush. Most likely he will need an updated tetanus shot, animal control will need to be contacted and if the animal cannot be located within the first 24-48 hours (dependent on local rules/regulations) your brother will need to begin the rabies series. Please be aware that rabies is a deadly disease and only 1 person has survived without undergoing the rabies series after a bite. Please take this matter seriously and seek medical attention.

The anti-rabies shots are no longer given in the stomach. Generally the 1st shot is given at the site of the bite, the rest in the arm like a normal shot. At least these are the current guidelines from the CDC.

How do you KNOW he is been abused? Many "abuse" instances I've visible have effortlessly been poorly socialized, poorly bred, anxious puppies with vulnerable temperaments. Most individuals could say my Luther has been "abused" due to the fact of the way he acts. NO. He's simply poorly bred. A good bred puppy will soar again from an abusive challenge, no hindrance. These are the "miracle" puppies you pay attention approximately. "OMG he was once abused however seem how satisfactory he's with everybody now". That's no longer a miracle puppy, only a steady puppy that's capable to outlive and transfer on. Pit bulls = animal aggression nearly all of the time. Any terrier is understood for animal aggression, as they had been bred to both hunt or combat. You cannot teach out genetics, nor are you able to punish an animal performing out on tendencies which were bred in for many years. You will have to of learned this approximately pit bulls BEFORE getting one. If you suppose that your pit bull demands to be positioned down for showing puppy on puppy animal aggression, then you don't have any correct proudly owning a pit bull. Because, once more, it is to be anticipated. What does this imply? You maintain him clear of different animals. As do many pit bull house owners. Animal aggression does NOT imply human aggression.

Help me understand. You are about thirteen, right? And your 23 yr old brother got bit at the beach and didn't realize until later that it was bleeding? And he doesn't know what to do so you are asking at yahoo dogs section?
Sounds like he got nipped and later realized it broke the skin. If it was a stray dog he should check with the local health department about what to do. It could have happened if a dog and he were both grabbing at a frisbee or something he had in his hand and been inadvertent. You don't say how it happened. What made the dog a Pit Bull? Was it the shape of it's head? It's muscular build?

First of all, it should have been reported. Animal Control should have been called. The dog would need a license and rabies tag. The dog will also have to be quarantined for 2 weeks and then inspected to be sure that he doesn't have rabies again. I hope that you got some information on the owner. I would hate to see your brother go through a bunch of rabies shots. I understand it is painful and in the stomach

You should call animal control (and the police). Tell them the approximate location of where he was bitten (geographical location), the type of dog and what it looked like, and take a picture of the wound on his hand, (evidence support for court if needed). You really should do this, because even if your brother was not hurt that badly, what if a little kid got bitten? They might not know it was a violent dog, you know how kids can be. They always want to pet the puppy, and a parent can turn their head for a second- they could get ripped apart.

This does not belong in the Dogs category. Even if he is 23 and you are how ever old you are, when a person gets bitten by a strange animal and hasa bleeding hand, it's quite clear a doctor is in order.

You were on the beach and no one was screaming bloody murder, because a pit was unleashed? Very unlikely.

Your brother needs you to login in to Y!A to ask what to do? Sure only his hand was bit?

Go to the doctor. Dog bites have the potential to cause staph infections. Those are serious infections if you don't know. Not to mention if the dog had a disease* rabies.

I'd recommend visiting the doctor.

Bruised, I can buy, but how can his hand be "all bloody" and him not notice it until hours later? Are you sure a shark didn't bite off a few fingers?
