It's probably beneficial to interchange between the two, since they both have positives and negatives

A treadmill provides a consistently level, even surface. No dogs, no weather, no traffic, no potholes or broken pavement or cracked sidewalks to deal with either. A treadmill you can increase the speed, slow the speed, and depending on what type model you have, you can increase the incline as well.

As far as boring, put on headphones, if there's a TV in the room, put on a concert DVD, listen to music. You can control the atmosphere inside with a fan, as opposed to running outside and the temperature increasing or decreasing, per the time of day.

And best of all, on a treadmill, no matter how far you run, you're still at the same place you started. No running a two miles, and realize you left the faucet running, and have to run back to turn it off. (Or whatever household concern there might be.)

It's really up to you.
Do you have bad knees or ankles? A treadmill would probably suit you better as the surface is softer.
Do you have a favorite TV show you never have time to watch? Put it on when you're on the treadmill!
Or, do you prefer to be outside in the fresh air? Running outdoors may suit you. You'll have scenery to look at and you can take an MP3 player along.
Another major factor is the weather. If it's raining you might not be so inclined to be outside for any longer than is needed. If it's terribly cold, you won't want to be running in such weather, either.
Hope that helps!

It is really a matter of opinion. Running on a treadmill is sometimes convienient for those who don't have a good place to run but I prefer running outside for a few reasons. One, it will give you a better workout because you are more generally running cross country and also it doesn't get boring. Running on a treadmill is the same thing over and over whereas running outdoors gives you a change of scenery and adds more excitement.

HI It's way better to run on the treadmille because your joints dont take alot of abuse the cement would give them and also if you run on the street not only is it bad but your smelling all the toxic fumes outside and it could be very hot or to cold you really need to take care of your body in those conditions and if your on the treadmille you can have your water next to you and you can also see how far youve gone and how many callories youve burned.take care!

for me the treadmill is better because the deck is cushioned and it is easier on my feet,
if I run outside, I run on concrete or pavement and after awhile I develop problems with my feet, because the ground is so solid.
This is probably because I am fairly heavy (235lbs not fat)
I don't like to run on grass because it is an inconsistent terrain and I really have to watch where I step.

Your body actually works harder on normal ground. Look at it this way...on a treadmill your body is working to keep you on the conveyer. But on ground, you use all your lower body muscles to propel yourself forward.
