Think about it first: people were persecuting and attacking in the days of old and all the way through middle ages and wild west days.
When you answer please say why or why not. If you say it's the same, please say when you think it will get worse, if at all.

In the older days, I remember a history lesson of how in a time of war and plague, diseased bodies were catapaulted across into enemy lands and amongst them.
There were also some pretty barbaric practices that some still try to do today.

In olden days people were also kidnapped, and not just kids.
An example is the slaves from all centuries; color, race, beliefs, need not apply for exclusion or acceptance. Some people were taken from their lands, some were taken after one army defeated another and the women and older girls were exploited, if you get my meaning, as well as the children used as workers. Otherwise many were killed.

I can understand about global scale and threats. What I'vew heard about bird flu and newer diseases that can wipe out more people than previous ones ever did. And then there's earthquakes, tsunamis, global warming and cooling and lands being melted washed out or submerged if the weather gets much worse.

Everything is cyclical. Think about it. The sun has been rising and setting again since the beginning. The earth has been turning all along. Rain comes from bodies of water and bodies of water come from rain. Everything has been done, there isn't anything new. And like you said, people have always been persecuting and attacking each other. 3000 years ago there were people who had the same emotions and ambitions as we do. So in that sense, it's absolutely the same. However, it's a decaying cycle. The earth is corrupted and things ARE getting worse. There isn't a point in time when things will suddenly start getting worse -- it's been happening all along. I do believe that things will get better, though. Many people believe that when we die we go to heaven or hell. I believe that too, but God also said that there will be a new earth, and that earth will be the way he originally intended it to be -- perfect. So yeah, it'll get worse before it gets better. But I don't think it'll be anything dramatic.

It's still a bit hard to believe that in the "olden days" that in some parts of the country a boy and a girl couldn't walk down the street holding hands

Yes it is definitely worse. First church and God were a staple in almost every family. People were in church every Sunday and loved it now Sunday is their day to sleep in... I believe that families were closer many years ago they would do what ever needed to be done to help there brother or sister not to mention a neighbor. Now most brothers and sisters fight some even kill one another. It used to be gun fights between adults in the old west now the guns are in our children's hands. People dislike each other and can not trust people now in the old days they could leave there doors wide open at night and no one would bother you or your things, in fact if you were in need they would give what they had to help you. Generally in the old days people could get a gun easily and no one had to have a police record check because they were mostly used to kill there dinner not so long ago we had to have a 13 day waiting period because you don't know if that guy is gonna pull a gun on you. Oh and by the way most people on the up and up were not going to mind the 13 day waiting period where the criminal is going to find a way to get that gun anyways. People used to work hard for what they had and not mind it now people want something for nothing all the time. People used to have to farm for most of their food and we were in better shape now we just go through the drive through to pick up dinner. People appreciated the most minute things in life back in the old days now they appreciate nothing.I could go on and on but I'm going to stop here.....

Culture as a whole is declining morally. Sex, violence, greed, pride, and any other vice you would like to mention have indeed been apart of society for a long time if not ever since society existed.
Yet the occurrence of these vices are increasing and so is the acceptability. More and more people consider magazines like "Playboy" as art and not pornography. Our schools and teachers seem to become less strict with morals. (teachers sexually abusing students, drugs in school, guns, etc)
The real question is will society stay on this path? Or will a generation stand up and say we have fallen rock bottom morally and ask for a moral revolution in this country.

Perception. It depends on how you view the events and what belief systems you apply to them as being good or bad. Personally, I take a far reaching view that encompasses the concept that everything happens for a reason, whether good or bad. These events are created enmasse by us for symbolic communications.
Further, since there is no right or wrong, just how our cultural mores determine them, I see these global movements as harbingers of a shift in global awareness. Trust me, further rad events are not too distant....simultaneous time notwithstanding....cheers

I think it is pretty much the same. Technology makes the same type of evil worse (ie, you can kill a lot more people with a nuclear bomb than a flaming arrow) and the news makes sure we know the worst things that are happening all over the world whereas in the "old days", people just knew what was happening in their own little corner. My small town is pretty idyllic, but I know all about people in Darfur. If all I knew about was my small town, I would think the world was wonderful. There are also more people populating the Earth now, so more potential for evil acts.

The world today would seem like a paradise for most of the people that have ever lived on this planet.
A higher percentage of people in modern times are better fed, safer, wealthier, healthier, and will have a longer lifespan than was usual at any other time in history

I think it only looks like it is getting worse because we are paying more attention to it due to the news, TV etc. I mean come on people were killed for sport in the old day and no one even thought twice about it. We live in an extremely disturbed society that values and accepts all the wrong things as being correct.

It is pretty much the same the only difference is that we are closer to Christ's return today than we ever were. Whether or not one is saved is the real question to be asked.
