I prefer to use straws because those beverage containers are never clean enough, and furthermore using a straw is a great idea to prevent your teeth from staining.
btw: I am not African American, I am Caucasian.

Gee, I didn't realize that using straws was an african american thing. Im caucasian and I use straws. Guess I had better stop, don't want people getting confused and thinking I'm black.

To ask a white server for something, anything. They also think they're too clean to put their lips on a glass that perhaps a white person has already used. I speak from experience, they'll ask every time.

Turtle?? i am with you. i better quit using straws, because I am white and native American, and I don't want people to confuse me with ... NOT GIVING A CRAP! i use straws because I don't know who drank out of that cup before I did, and I like them because I get more liquid with a straw than without one and also I dont like my ice cubes getting in the way of my drink. Wow. I didn't know all black people used straws. I guess i better stop using straws because accoding to you, ONLY black people can use them. God forbid they get offended because I am using something meant only for them! Sheesh!

Uh, prolly for the same reason anyone else uses a straw, because they want one.
My wife's Mexican and she drinks from a straw.
I'm Italian and I drink from a straw.
I know I've seen Asian people using straws
Almost positive I've seen Native Americans using them too.
Maybe even inbred hillbilly Aryan wannbees.

People be nice. This is evidently a person with special needs. Things need to be explained very simple to the simple minded. They ask for a straw so they can drink their beverage.

The waiter or waitress just gives straws with the drinks
you don't have to ask for one no matter what your race is.

you...I'm white with mixed races...and i like drinking beverages with straw. I like them because i don't like the ice cubes touching my teeth that why...some people have sensetivity issues...while other can deal with pain with cold stuff touching everything.
