If you want a beach feel in a dorm room your best bet is to use fabrics and pictures/posters. An extra large poster of an ocean view would be great. You can add some nautical embellishment, but remember a dorm room is small. Keep it simple. Below is a link with some really good, inexpensive ideas.

If you want to create a beach / sea theme for a dorm room, try looking up Wall Buddies www.wallbuddies.com.au. I have seen a similar theme in one of the children's wards at the Modbury Hospital in SA and it looks fantastic. I remember they had a lighthouse, sea shells, fish, a mermaid to name a few. They are very bright and a large size too and look 3-D.

Sounds good. Get a fishnet and use that somewhere in the room. Also a anything nautical like rope ties for the dresser pulls. Paint the room a sky blue and some billowy white clouds on the ceiling.

I'm presently redoing a guest room in the same. I'm going with pale blue walls. Distressed white furniture. (Lots of blue & white) I'm doing a semi-transparent stain on the concrete floor in a sand color with an area rug. Also, nice to add some beach shots or lighthouse shots. I'm doing mine in black & white in white frames. I'll be adding a little touch of green in the room and maybe a little shell pink.

1] blue walls, with clouds
2] bedding in ocean/sea colors
3] big tatami floor mat
4] beach pictures
5] shells big enough to hold desk or dresser items, or a planter or candle holder
6] smaller starfish as paperweights
7] pillows made of beach towels [ or just bright terrycloth ]
8] sheers for curtains, or bamboo shades
Be sure to store all extras [ underbed storage, laundry bags ] so room looks great!

Whatever you do to make your dorm room original, make sure it complies with the campus fire codes. You don't want to spend a lot of money decorating only to have it torn down during room inspections.
