Is it just to get the human scent off? I've heard many theories but am not sure which is true

I got this from a site :
"Did you know that a cat's sense of smell is fourteen times stronger than a human's? That is because its total nasal organ is comparatively larger than that of a human. Cats depend on their sense of smell for their very survival; in fact it could be said that a cat's nose is its most important organ. A cat uses scent to sniff out food, mates, enemies, and to seek out his own territory, which he has previously marked. It is easy then to see that the world of a cat is the world of scents and odors."

I have heard that we humans give off a smell that cats can smell but we can't. No matter how clean we are, cats hate our smell.

No, it is not because you got them dirty. Cats live in a world of scents, and in licking their fur after you have petted them, they are imprinting your scent into their minds.

Since cats have a exquisite sense of smell, they probably know you are coming by your scent long before they see you.

If you have to board your cat for any reason, often it is suggested you take a shirt or other item you have worn, and leave it with them. Your scent on the item will reassure them.

I think it's because they want to be beautiful and desirable. They don't just do it after getting petted. They also tend to do it when they jump up on the bed next to you, before you pet them. Cats usually have a lot of self respect regarding their personal appearance.

If cats want to get your scent off of them, then why do they cuddle with your pjs or clother you throw on the bed or the chair?

On top of the scents, I personally notice my cat immediately grooming herself whenever her fur is 'misplaced' so I'd think it's just that quirky cats have fussy preferences.

It's because by petting them we've stimulated the grooming process. Cat's are usually social groomers, each one helping the others. We start the grooming process, then when you're done petting her the cat finishes.

Because they've got to straighten & clean themselves up again, cat's love to clean (groom) themselves Did You know cats are excellent swimmers but they won't get in the water because they will have to spend waay to much time grooming

i think it is because they enjoy the "Grooming" that we humans did. because cats will groom each other, and that's possible that the cat is doing that. but i really am not sure, its just a guess.

cats always have to have their fur in a special place or it doesn't feel right (or something like that) this is why they hate water so much and they lick themselves for about an hour..
