I am only 16 and i have to swallow a camera and i am going to request sedatives, what do you think they will give me.

If you are swallowing a pill camera you will not have sedative. If they are going down your throat with a camera the doctor will choose your sedation. I don't think you will be given a choice.

I had an upper and lower GI over 25 years ago, so it may have changed by now. I don't think they give you any sedatives, because you are awake during the procedure. They will either give you a pill or have you drink a chalky type of liquid, so they can view your intestional track on the screen. They are looking for blockages in your tract. You'll be okay.

You will probably be put to sleep to do this. If they do, you'll go right to sleep and wake up hardly feeling like you were sedated at all.
You should always ask such questions when a doctor schedules anything, so you'll be more comfortable about the procedure. Don't worry about it. Good luck tomorrow.

What you are describing is an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or upper endoscopy), not an upper GI - that's a different test.

When they did my endoscope, they gave me versed. It is the same stuff they give people when they have wisdom teeth.
It was great stuff. I didn't know a thing. When it was over, I was ticked to be awakened 'cause I was having such a good nap. I didn't have any drug hangover, either.
