Okay. So I've just started voice lessons [yay choir ^_^] and my teacher says no caffiene or carbonated sodas, and I've been off them since, but my sister [who has also been in choir] says that I can drink them and it won't matter. Right now I'm on the side of my voice teacher [she knows best, hah] but I would like to know for sure. btw she says that it dries out your vocal chords and whatnot. If there's any other foods I can't have please tell me, I want to keep my voice/throat/vocal chords in tippy top shape ^_^

Love,
Tarja

It does matter. Drinking sodas will build up flem in your throat and the acidity can coat your tongue. I don't sing anymore so I can drink them, but when I was I avoided them like the black plague.

OK I'll upset the apple cart one time..... for ME PERSONALLY ONLY........ I cannot CANNOT sing a performance drinking water. I get more phlem and scratchiness on water.... I drink pop. I KNOW its supposedly a NO-NO... but it works for me. NO dairy though!!!!!!!! Dairy is the enemy for singers. Hot tea is good if I am having throat issues, but yes, DIET soda usually is my staple when I have a performance. OJ is good also.

Caffeine makes nerves worse, and I don't eat dairy products for a day before I perform. Also, eat lightly before you sing.
