I am studying, to earn a degree in early childhood education and working full time in an office. I think it would be better to get some experience in, so my question is , Can I get a job teaching before I get my degree and what kind of salary could I earn ? I am not too happy at my job now but the money is o.k. ( pays all the bills, but nothing amazing .) I want to start working with kids asap if I could but the money would have to be at least what I am making now. Open to suggestions
thanks !!

Without knowing where you live it is hard to give a more specific response. Basically, because you are not yet qualifiied, you will find it difficult to find a job working with children where the pay is reasonable. Other than working in a child care centre, I can only think of babysitting, creches or perhaps a tutoring company may take you on depending on how far through your degree you are. I work as a recruitment consultant for an Education company in Adelaide, Australia, and we do permanent and temporary placement of staff into child care centres. If someone is actively studying toward their degree, and have completed 2 years of their early childhood course they can get a letter from their uni and it actually allows them to work as a qualified child care worker, and the pay is much better than for unqualified child care workers.

I'm not sure about all 50 states ,
But most have standards that require a Bachelors plus some states require the 5th year for a teaching credential .
You could be a classroom aid , but I think that salary is just above minimum wage .

I think it depends on where you live. I know that here in NY state, there are some special programs that may promote that...maybe NYC?
