Okay, I asked this in General but should have asked it here--

If you leave a alone dog in hot a car even for a few minutes, you get a hefty fine. If the dog dies, you go to court for animal abuse. This is right-- animals shouldn't suffer.

But this lady leaves her 2 year old child in a 150 degree car for eight hours, the poor baby dies, and the woman doesn't even get in trouble? The people on the news say that this "mother" suffered enough-- but this sets a precedent for every other death that happens this way. "Let your kid die in a car, and it's fine with the law. That's just an accident-- not negligent or bad."

Also...how can any good mother forget that they have a living, breathing child right behind them in the seat? If you actually care about your kids and love them-- how does one let this happen?

How can this woman get away with burning her child to death in a car? How can anyone forget a child in a car for eight hours? Why is she not serving many years in jail?

Basically, I'm asking how this can be moral. A person leaves a dog in a car and the dog survives-- the person gets a fine. Leave a kid in a car and the kid dies-- that's fine. Is this what's passing for morality these days?

This lady isn't getting prosecuted or even a fine because it was an accident. And they think she's "suffered enough."

Bad Liberal-- I'm honestly asking where the morality comes in. I want to know why it's bad in the US to hurt an animal (which I agree that it's bad) but it's okay to leave a kid multiple times in a car. Read the article about it. How can someone do that, and where are the morals?

"Security video shows she remembered to unload the doughnuts she brought for meetings but left her daughter in her car seat." That doesn't sound like simple forgetting. Here's another News link, this happened in Ohio: http://www.wlwt.com/news/14054659/detail.html

Here's another thing that bothers me: "Union Township police released security camera video on Tuesday that showed that Nesselroad-Slaby returned to the SUV five times during the day, and once moved the SUV to another location in the parking lot."

The woman didn't simply forget. She has done this on numerous occasssions and has even been talked to about this by school adminstrators. The other 5 year old daughter should be immediately removed from the home, The proscuter should be fired on the spot. This is quite simply murder. This little girl suffered a horrible death. She did not simply go to sleep and not wake up. She probably suffered from painful abdominal and leg cramps According to research by Dr Batmanghelidj, the body releases histamine during dehydration. When histamine and subordinate "drought managers" come across pain-sensing nerves, they cause pain. The mother is an educated woman a principle of a school (Thank God I do not have children in that school) She knew what the risks were when she left the child in the car because she had been told of the risks on 3 seperate occassions. In my eyes it is premediated murder, As for the people who saw this happen on 3 seperate occassions and only spoke to the Mother and did not call 911 to report this shame on them. They facilitated in the death of this innocent little girl by remaining silent.
If she could remember to get the doughnuts as caught on video she couldn't remember her child was in the car. Sounds to me like she didn't have a babysitter or was to cheap to pay for one,

I think the difference is intent. When one leaves an animal in a car, they usually know they have done it - they went to the store and just left the animal in the car because it's "just a dog" sort of thinking. Usually - not always - but often when it is a child that is left in the car, you find out that it was done by the parent who is not the USUAL parent in charge of taking the child to daycare, sitter, wherever.

I believe (if it is the case I am thinking of), this woman falls into that category. She did not usually take the baby with her. It was not her intent to harm or kill or forget her child. People forget things everyday even their children. Personally, I think it is less of an indicator of the parent and more an indicator of just how scattered everyone is today. It's sad, and it's tragic, but it is sometimes an accident. This isn't after all the same as going to a brothel, leaving your kid in the car to die or get kidnapped, so you can get your rocks off. That is the difference. One did not intend to leave their child in the car while the other planned for it. Just like one plans to leave their pet. It is all about intent.

She should be in jail. This was not the first time she left her child in the car unattended. Take a look at this story.
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070905/NEWS01/309050039/1056/COL02

How can they be so quick to say it was an accident? How many times has she done this? Maybe she was trying to kill her daughter in an "accidental" way. She should be prosecuted to find out the answers to these questions.

Yes she looked very upset in that video. Hypothetically speaking, let's say she did this on purpose. The realization of her child being dead would make her upset. It could have been an act. There may be more to this story that we may never know because the prosecutors are too ignorant to prosecute her. She deserves to be in jail. At the very least, she is negligent in her daughter's death. Prosecution could prove that there were other circumstances involved, but I will not assume she did this on purpose.

I am a father of two beautiful girls. Children are very special. How could the mother forget her child in the car? It's ridiculous and I am extremely appalled by this situation.

Poppy, if I had that problem, I wouldn't log into YA for a little while. I would lay low. And it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to take a closer look at your contacts. Anyone who is at an entry or low-level should be reconsidered as to whether you want them as friends / contacts / fans. Once point levels get high seems to be when the trolls are most active on reporting. They seem to be trying to knock all the good competition out by reporting their higher-level contacts as much as possible. So, if I had a lot of contacts, I would look to see when those people became active. Or you could email a friend you trust who also has lots of contacts and ask your friend if you have any of the same contacts and are considered "questionable." Because some of my friends and contacts are eliminating the people who aren't their avid fans, I no longer get nearly as many questions in my email box. I understand why some of my contacts who have tons of fans have to eliminate some of their innocent fans. Sure, it's not as much fun to delete some of your contacts, but I think it might be the smart thing to do. Then, trolls will have to go out of their way to try and find your questions. Or, if you don't want to lay low and hide for a while to see if you can lose your troll, then you probably need to eliminate some more of your contacts. It's what I'd do. No innocent sounding questions should be considered to be a reported "violation" in my opinion. Any innocent questions you asked and received a violation notice for, you need to contest the questions or answers that were reported as violations with YA. I hope you can lose your troll. But I don't think it's wise to ignore all of your contacts... start doing a little investigating of your own. I'm not on YA as much as I used to be and trolls are partially the reason why. Some YA accounts just have to be blocked. And don't respond to hateful or criticizing emails from people you don't know. Just hit the delete key or ban those people that you don't trust. I eliminated those people who aren't here at YA very much and who have a low amount of points. And be very careful when you answer random questions from people you don't know anything about. Best of luck to you, my friend.

It is because where ever she lives the authorities did not properly do their job. In the eyes of the law she killed that child. There are many different crimes she could be charged with.

Edit: Thanks for the link. It is truly disgusting. Even if she did "forget" her child was in the car it is no excuse. She should still be held liable under the law. The fact that they are not even going to get Child Protective Services involved is the most ludicrous thing I have ever hear.

Ten Commandments: I don't know how leaving your child in a SUV for eight hours is comparable to forgetting your check book, but hopefully you don't have children.

She didn't do it on purpose. The kid was more than likely asleep and the mother was probably half asleep. A mother can do this on accident the same way people everyday leave their lunch money or check book on the counter on their way to work. While I understand that this needs to be prevented, is it fair to make this woman go to prison after killing her own child? That woman is going to have to live with herself for the rest of her life is that not punishment enough? But on the other hand if she doesn't get punished some people who want to kill their kids would do that thinking they could get away with murder by claiming it was an accident.

For 8 hours! That's criminal and she should be treated as one. Punished enough! What about that poor baby in a hot car. No child at 2 years of age should be left alone in a car.

Yes, we just had a similar situation in Georgia and 3 such incidents last summer. They all said the same thing; "I forgot the baby was in the car." Not only do I think they need to serve time, I believe they don't need to have any more children since they are incapable of caring for them.
Here's one such story with no charges filed:

If you google baby dies in hot car, you will see this happens more often than anyone would believe.

It's completely beyond my comprehension. How do you forget that your child is in the car? How is that POSSIBLE???? My children are in my thoughts every single second of every minute of every day. When they're not WITH me, I'm worrying about them and wondering exactly where they are and what they're doing. This sort of thing blows my mind completely. You know...since this is the religion section, I'll ask...if there IS a God out there, then how come he lets people that stupid breed????

judgment is tempered with mercy . no fine will bring back their child nor impress the importance any further than before
take the regret and try not compound it with ignorant rules that really don't serve justice . hang the parents and see what message that sends to higher minded folks . do you always have control of everything you want in your live needless to say you don't and never will should you get penalized for being human and failing out of human frailty comes mercy and judgmental proprieties require some flexibility to display this . draw your lines without sympathy but they get mine as if it matters in the light of their grief. do you really think people chose when and what they forget and should the mother of the remaining child be taken away to no positive cause so you can send a message to people that already know it.
injustice is not the cure for an injustice so who are you protecting ?
peace
