Hypoallergenic dog breeds, are those breeds that are considered the most suitable for those who suffer from allergies. Though they do produce dander, the amount is so small that very few people experience allergy symptoms when in contact with these breeds. However, one should always visit the dog before deciding on a pet to make sure that there will not be a reaction.
Hypoallergenic dog breeds:
- Airedale Terrier
- American Hairless Terrier
- Basenji
- Bedlington Terrier
- Bergamasco
- Bichon Frisé
- Bolognese
- Border Terrier
- Bouvier des Flandres
- Cairn Terrier
- Chacy Ranior
- Chinese Crested
- Coton De Tulear
- Fox Terrier (Wire)
- Giant Schnauzer
- Hairless Khala
- Havanese
- Irish Water Spaniel
- Kerry Blue Terrier
- Lagotto Romagnolo
- Lhasa Apso
- Maltese
- Miniature Poodle
- Miniature Schnauzer
- Native American Indian Dog
- Peruvian Inca Orchid
- Portuguese Water Dog
- Puli
- Shih Tzu
- Silky Terrier
- Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
- Spanish Water Dog
- Standard Poodle
- Standard Schnauzer
- Tibetan Terrier
- Toy Poodle
- Welsh Terrier
- West Highland White Terrier
It is a common misconception that the amount of hair a dog contains acts as the trigger for people suffering from allergies and asthma. The true cause of their suffering is due to the dog’s skin dander. Therefore hairless or short haired dogs, although they many not have much hair, their skin dander will still trigger allergic reactions. No dog is completely 100% hypoallergenic.

Go to www.petfinder.com and search for local rescues and shelter. Some dogs that don't shed as much are poodles or schnauzers. But it does varry within the breeds. Both of those breeds have different sizes like Toy, Mini, or Standard.
Do not buy into the designer mix breeds, such as peekapoo (pekanese/poodle mix). They are the exact same as any other dog, your just going to pay a LOT more. Unless you plan on showing there is no reason to not get a dog from your local shelter.

well i think you need to also look into how much excercise you can give them, house and time.
as all these things will influence what breed you should get. a big dog that doesn't shed alot i think is a bit harder to find but i would say:
portugese waterdog
standard poodle
giant schnauzer
research a little on the internet as well. read up on all the different breeds. maybe even go to ur local animal shelter. there are alot of dogs waiting for a good home and they make great pets!

If you really have the time for a big dog I would suggest a Rottweiler. They have relatively short hair, are wonderful dogs, have the great cool big dog loyalty, and are very receptive of your emotions. They sense if you are open to discussion or are on the defence and mimic your feelings. They will defend you to the end. The best dog we have ever owned. Had one for seven years. We can play catch with him and he will bring the ball back until he cannot walk. He has NEVER messed in the house and stays in for 9 hours a day as we both work. Never had an issue with burglars or door to door salesman. As soon as they ring the bell, Zeus lets out a bark that will send them away quickly. Great with our two kids and every kid in the neighbourhood. He is so receptive that he senses people we do not totally trust. He has never showed an aggressive bone unless provoked and then it was just to get rid of the threat. Not to make you worry, rots love their family and will do anything for them. Only downfall, if you call it that, is they need to walk or exercise almost everyday.

There is no such thing as a dog that does not shed. Some shed less than others and are better for allergies, but to some degree, they all shed.
Go to the AKC website and research the various breeds to find one that will suit you best.

You are allergic to the dander in double coated dogs. Try a Soft coated wheaton terrier, they're hypoallergenic, and are actually a REAL breed unlike the "doodle" breeds. They are a larger to medium dog, very friendly, and cute. If he's not your style, look for something that only has a single coat and not a double coat, Boxer, Dobie, Ridgeback.

Any dog with curly hair (ie lab-poodle mix) is hypo-allergic. the curly hair doesn't have whatever sets off allergies.
if you get a pure bred, you need to be cautious because they tend to have joint problems (especially in the bigger dogs) but in my opinion, mutts. I've had alot of experience with handling dogs, and the mutts are always the best. they love you no matter what, are completely loyal, and don't have a 500 dollar price tag.
Females tend to be better because they don't have the "instinct" that most males have. males tend to wander off looking to expand their "territory," while females tend to stay closer to home. Females are also less aggressive (make sure to spay/ neuter your pet)

Well if you want a puppy you should try to go to a shelter and see which puppy suits you. You never know you might come out of the shelter with a grown dog instead. I found this website. I hope it helps you with your search.
