Not alot when you look at idle speeds or navigation, its when you begin to preform tasks that power becomes an issue.
To answer your question fairly we need to know what tasks you are going to be doing.
On similar systems;
Windows will run office programs and games a lot better.
Linux will run server tasks better.
I have never used solaris, but i know it doesn't have a lot of support so I would steer away from that just for that reason

Performance for what?
As a desktop they are pretty much the same performance wise.

So Im guessing you mean as a server on the net? A web server or email server?

Solaris (any unix) is great for performance and stability as a server dong standard old internet stuff (web server, email server, news server, all at once). But hardest of the three to manage. Once you have it running though you can leave it there for years as long as you dont mess with it. Its also my choice for really LARGE needs.

Linux is my personal choice for a server. Great performance. More toys and more fun. You can try out the new internet things to do abit quicker than on Solaris. I have a couple dozen domains, 100 email accounts, and host games on a computer that I moved off of because it wouldnt run the latest games in windows. I could easily do 3 times as many accounts. As a server, linux is cool.

Windows is the easiest to manage. Everything has lots of menus. Its a good choice for an office where many people might need to access things and make changes (lots of customer support people?). However, it takes alot more computer to do a single thing. And it tends to not like to do many different jobs at once. As just a mid-sized xxxxx server (web, email, news, etc) by itself then its usually OK.
